Shouty Factor

I think it'd be dull if someone else who shouts quite a lot and excuses that as singing, wins this year. Again.

There's a very fine line between effective, powerful and tuneful vocals (see: Leona Lewis) and someone who just thinks that volume negates the need for pitch, tune or control. It does seem that post-Leona there has only ever been room for one kind of vocalist.

It's as if they've been trying to recapture the lightening repeatedly with her. This applies to male contestants too I guess. There seems to be now, more so than ever, a number of contestants who simply...shout.

I'm not a good singer myself but I'd like to think I know the difference between someone with a good voice and someone who doesn't have a good voice but uses sheer power to compensate.

X-Factor should be about finding all different types of artists. Was Will Young the best vocalists in the competition? Of course he wasn't. But he had a nice, middle-of-the-road, inoffensive voice which he then adapted and moved into the more bluesy-pop style which has been such a great success for him.

I do wonder why people seemingly think that X-Factor winners have the belt out everything like Mariah Carey singing for her supper.

Maybe because they are TOLD to would be my answer, some can sing without shouting as it happens, but seems the judges want the money note sadly.

Agreed.

Death to warbling.

Yeah, some are definately being shoe-horned into giving performances that don't gell with their raw talent and natural ability and to the detriment of their authenticity... and then getting pelters for it on here. Go figure.
