Paul McCartney has confirmed reports that he is in talks to appear on this year's X Factor.

The ex-Beatle is rumoured to be performing in this year's final, with the show's remaining contestants also being given songs by his former group.

McCartney told The Sun: "It's something we are talking about. Dermot [O'Leary] is a lovely man who I know very well. He's full of energy and keen for me to do it.

"We're seeing if we can make it work. I've been watching on and off with my family. Sometimes it throws up someone brilliant like Leona Lewis. Other years have not been so good."

Regarding the recently-eliminated John & Edward, he added: "It's impossible not to like them.

"They're a great couple of lads. But let's be honest, they were never going to last much longer in the show. They had to go."

WTF? one minute Mc Cartney is calling Cowells music 'a cancer', next hes rumoured to be supporting this karaoke fiasco!!!

i have a great deal of respect for one of pop musics greatest ever innovators if not THE most innovative person in pop.... but his judgement over recent years has been seriously compromised... heather mills?.... and now this seeming contradiction...

personally i hope he sees sense and this never happens, john lydon, kate bush, david bowie, all wouldnt im sure, so why should macca stoop so low?

I started a post about this a minute ago, sorry I didn't see this but... yea I agree with you. How contradictory. Paul McCartney seems to be trying hard to be "down with the kids" so annoying. Simon Cowell has turned the Beatles legacy into a mockery.

Paul needs a serious rethink. This tripe is not what he should be doing.

I couldn't imagine John Lennon appearing on X Factor if he was alive.

The thread title sums it up for me. WTF???? Why on earth would he want to appear on XFactor? He doesn't need the money or the exposure and it will do his credibility a lot more harm than good. Then again, the same could be said about Queen... Still, this is in The Sun, so I'm taking it with a large pinch of salt for now

THE BEATLES CAN NOT BE DESTROYED.
They're forever epiphanised at the top. The greatest artists of all time.

This WILL NOT hurt. This will only draw attention to Paul's achievements, and what a great writer, performer - and person - he is.

One of Macca's arsehairs could create better music than what we've endured in this series of X Factor.

I see this as an apology by Simon Cowell to me personally for Wham! week.

Woahhhh! Who exactly?
I bet Simon Cowell is cracking open the champagne right now if he really has managed to get the most sucessful artist in the world on his show.

Who's better than the man who changed the course of popular music FOREVER? Pray tell.

The Beatles were good. Paul might well be a good songwriter but he doesn't have a brilliant voice or stage presence imo. I really hate music snobbery . Because i am not a fan of "a legend", doesn't mean i shouldn't be taken seriously so please refrain from the rolleyes.

I like certain music/songs because they are good, make me happy. I DON'T just go with the flow because they are "successful". If anything, i think i should be commended for being an individual.

it's similar to the reaction i get when i dare to voice my opinion and say i don't really like michael jackson "the legend". someone's always going to have a go at you, it's DS.

What do you expect people's reactions to be in a pro-McCartney thread when your wonderfully deep observation is that in your opinion he's "shit"? I'm no fan of Michael Jackson but I wouldn't be ignorant enough to call him "shit", which he blatantly wasn't. Just didn't float my boat. If you can't take it don't dish it out...

lol. "if you can't take it don't dish it out" . the whole point of the forums is you give your opinion and discuss matters which is exactly what i did and questioned someone who was being arrogant.

I do have a "wonderfully deep observation" thanks but it's been a long day. i'm chillaxin' and i can't be arsed writing a essay . I am sorry if that affects you.

A thread is a thread at the end of the day. Not sure why it has to be a pro thread. Nothing in the title suggested that to me.

Sorted.

I take it you are refering to me? . Thanks for letting me know, you earn something new every day.

Not sure why you would have taken that as a complement seeing as McCartney is a fan of the show and likes Jedward. But hey, if it makes you feel better...

I wouldn't worry too much about Macca, can you name a good song he wrote on his own ?

It doesn't. Not even minutely.

Oh dear. The "Lennon/McCartney" song credit was an agreement by the two in the early sixties so they could share royalties. They only wrote a handfull of Beatles songs together, most of them early material.
If you want classics Macca wrote on his own then how about we start with "Hey Jude", "Yesterday" or ""Get Back"?
I love the internet. It's the only place you'll find the worlds most successful songwriter being called "shit" by some nomark in his living room
