Time to Bring Back Len's Rejects?
dancealong
27-11-2009
With news that Rickie Whittle might not be dancing this weekend and that Ali's injury is quite serious, surely with Jade also pulling out, the ever decreasing numbers warrant some creative thinking on the part of the BBC to prevent the show limping into oblivion before the Christmas finale.

Might this not be a time to give the viewers an opportunity to vote back in a couple of the early rejects that many people thought were unfairly ejected by Len's casting vote? Zoe and Tuffers spring immediately to mind, but even Martina Hingis Richard Dunwoody might liven up the show. Even if the voted back celeb wasn't entitled to be part of the voting procedure, at least we would get to see a few more dances and be entertained.

Any other thoughts?

It wouldn't make up for the loss of those 2 couples.

This season has been a Disaaaaaaster

My thoughts are that in the event of any withdrawals for whatever reason (and 'withdrawals' should include 'enforced' withdrawal for those who can't dance due to injury or illness or bereavement or imprisonment etc), they postpone the usual Saturday show elimination and carry forward the scores and the votes.

Voting back losers would be one of the last options I would like to see considered.

The only returnees could be the ones most recently voted out (as they had progressed the furthest in the competition). But as I now see it, the producers missed that opportunity when Jade withdrew. They also missed the other "fair" opportunity of having no elimination that week.

I really do wonder sometimes about the thought process in the SCD production office.....They failed to act when Tarby had to withdraw after one Dance....The did sweet FA!! when Kelly felt she could not continue....We know they read the forums...They are fully aware that everyone....and I think I can say "everyone" with 100% certainty....wants to see a final with 3 contestants.....but what have they done this year...Nothing...not even a hint that they are considering a roll over week.....Love or Loath Simon Cowel but he would never allow circumstances to dictate a 2 man/woman final. He would do something to get the numbers up and no doubt the ratings as well....But then he`s a multi millionaire with a bit of nouse and the production team of Strictly are but paid minions, who for some unknown reason can`t make the most obvious of calls...A roll over week.

The obvious solution is to bring back Austin Healey. He's never done the Charleston or R&R in SCD before so wouldn't have an unfair advantage, he's presumably in some sort of preparations for the Tour and Erin's now free.

He'd probably win this year, as Craig and Brune doubtless feel guilty about the way they triggered him last year as their favourites still lost.

How wopuld that be in the spirit of this year's competition? Indeed, why should he get what would be an automatic pass through to the latter stages this year when he has not danced and has not been voted this year? How does that stack up against those who HAVE danced in the competition this year AND have received judges and public support this year?

In fairness to all, couples AND public, you cannot bring back failed competitors from previous years. This is SCD 2009, and the competitors deserve to win or lose judges against that competition.

They might not say this early and leave it till the end of the dancing on Saturday but I think you are right that their coping with crisis method is pure rabbit in the headlights. They just don't have the flexibility to think what do we do on Saturday without the vote and dance off

Anyone else confronted with Ali or Jade's MRI would decide there and then that dancing was impractical that week and tell them to go away and see what the doctors said next week. They seem desperate to keep things going as they are and inflexible. They should have decided on a rollover probably this week as soon as Jade left and they ought to have an idea ready for what they would do about Ali taking a bye.

He didn't get the points or enough votes. Kelly seems a fairer choice - she is in the same position re the tour as him and was never eliminated in the normal way.

The obvious problem is that with either you would have a winner who didn't actually compete in the series. A smart producer though might look into what they could do though to fill 10 minutes on a show with no dance off and it would be good promotion for the tour too.

I was gutted that Matthew and Martina were voted off in the first week but was that the start of the jinx to hit Strictly? There has been mistake after mistake and have the BBC done anything to correct it - no - they sit in their ivory tower (production office) at Television Centre totally oblivious to the fact this series is crumbling about them. The phrase "Ostrich with head in the sand" springs to mind.

They must read the forums and letters of complaint but actually chose to ignore the feelings of the viewers because they are the "professionals" and they know best. Pride comes before a fall but unless the powers that be make some pretty hard decisions and cut out the dead wood then the Good Ship Strictly will sink slowly into the sunset.

no-one has done the Charleston or Rock & Roll, so actually if that is your argument (not that I agree he or anyone should come back) then anyone from any series should come back?

I was surprised to see the reaction to Jade. On DWTS, they take the most recent rehearsal performance and judge/phone vote upon that. Of the 4 I have seen, I think 3 got thru (even with a low panel vote) and were back in time for the following week.

In addition, they have 'extra' celebs so that there are a couple of 'double elimination' rounds planned in. Therefore, if 2 have to drop out totally (we had one this year) they drop a 'double' elim, and make it a nornal one.

We ended up with 3 in the final, dancing (I think) 4 dances over the 2 shows.
