I like Beyonce but that crazy n love song is so overrated. Its a bit of a random list. I like a lot of the bands on the list but have differing tastes to NME as to what their best songs are.

I don't mind it being no.1 if I'm honest.

What I have a problem with is the Yeah Yeah Yeahs being on the chart about a squillion times

Arcade Fire Rebellion has to be number one for me, closely followed by Klaxons Golden Skans. The top ten isn't bad at all!

Wow strange choice at number 1 considering the rest of the top 10, delighted it's Beyonce though, she really is the standout star of the 00s for me, although I'd rate Single Ladies, Irreplaceable and Broken Hearted Girl, amongst others, as better than Crazy in Love.

what i don't get is the killers - all that i've done is at 95 with the text saying "the best killers song by some distance" yet somebody told me is included at 41 :S

that doesn't make sense...

that's the NME for you.

perhaps they factored in other things to place the other song higher, or maybe the two entries were written by different people and they had differing opinions of the best killers song.

Glad at least Queens of the Stone Age make an appearance in that odd list. And wow, Top 10 is rather, well, crap, Paper Planes made it to Number 4, that Joke song! Crazy In Love is Number 1???

what's joke-like about 'paper planes'?

the NME didn't set out to create a list specifically to your tastes, it's probable that everyone can find something to disagree about in this list - if you don't like a certain song, it doesn't automatically make it not good.

But Johnny Cash at number 92 and Beyonce at No 1, and don't get me started on the Artic Monkeys who are just a (slightly) more credible version of the Sultans of Ping FC.

Gods, I really miss the Melody Maker, at least Mr Angry was worth reading. Thank the gods for Charlie Brooker!

"M.I.A. Third World Democracy, yeah, I got more weapons than the KGB so no funnay biznas!"

Also, there are plenty of songs on that list I don't like but I know the bands have a huge following, such as Artic Monkeys, but that Top 10 is very, well, weird.

its deeper meaning isn't all that funny:

MIA: " I was going to get patties at my local and just thinking that really the worst thing that anyone can say [to someone these days] is some shit like: "What I wanna do is come and get your money." People don't really feel like immigrants or refugees contribute to culture in any way. That they're just leeches that suck from whatever. So in the song I say "All I wanna do is [sound of gun shooting and reloading, cash register opening] and take your money." I did it in sound effects. America is so obsessed with money, I'm sure they'll get it. "

Johnny Cash at no.92!!!!!!!! When's the real list being released? This should have been higher than at least 90 of those songs Good to see Regina Spektor getting some recognition though Elbow-One Day Like This should be MUCH higher grrrr these lists do my head in although it has introduced me to Chicago by Sufjan Stevens so it aint all bad. Although Doves should def be in the top ten and where the hell is Mr Brightside?? Happy with MGMT and MIA making the top five but that no.1 Seriously? Killer tune but not the best of the decade or even most iconic. Rant over

A very strange list with a very strange No.1, it isn't even a good song more a noise really.

lol, no surprise to see Arctic Monkeys, Libertines, Strokes and YYYs high up on the list again. They really love those bands.

That Beyonce song, like many of hers imo, is repetitive and not nice to listen to because of the whiney vocals. If they wanted to pick a non rock/indie number 1, 'Crazy' by Gnarls Barkley would have been a better choice. That still sounds good even though it was played to death.

WOOHOO so glad Beyonce is number 1

She deserves it.. I am a Beyonce fan so may be biased but i think she is the only female singer around who will still be around in about 10 years getting number one singles, with maybe the exceptions of Rihanna and Britney(If she hasn't given up by then)

I personally don't get what Beyonce brings to music the industry, musically. Her uptempos are probably her best feature, but the majority of her uptempos her repetitive and simlar sounding, no direct individuality. She doesn't seem to push herself as an artist creativity wise, as she seems to just focus on doing one time of music and staying in her comfort zone. Yes, her image has had a slight change this time around but that's about it.

Her ballads (recently) emphais more on voice than the quality of the records which therefore results in her ballads (which once used to be good) sounding bland ala, ''Broken Hearted Girl'', ala ''If I Was A Boy''.
What happened to days of ''Me, Myself & I'' and ''Irreplacable''? Both excellent tracks.
Video Phone has to be one of the worst songs of 2009. Seriously.
CIL is overrated as well.
I'm not too keen on this list tbh.
But then this is NME so.....

Can't believe Sex on Fire is so far down that list, surely its like one of the biggest songs of the 00s???
Gnarls Barkley, Kylie, Queens of the Stoneage imo should be a lot higher and i don't really agree with the top choice but otherwise quite a diverse list. Not bad for NME!!!
