What happens if he is charged at a later date though? Honestly, this series of Strictly is one disaster after another!

Where did you see that QuizMike? The main story is still saying they don't know if he will appear.

Still makes no difference. "Innocent until proven guilty." Case won't come to court until after Christmas, if at all.

Difficult to suspend him and rather pointless considering his contract length.
If it does come to court, he will no longer be an employee of the BBC, whatever the verdict.

He's been released on bail so legally there is no reason why he can't dance tomorrow. If it was near the beginning of the series the beeb might have asked him to leave the series, but as it's last few weeks, and Jade has already left a gap, I can't see them stopping him.

But just imagine: if Ricky wasn't allowed to dance and Ali breaks another toe-nail...... sorry, sprains her ankle again and withdraws, that would leave Na-alie, Chris and Laila to cover the show for the next 3 weeks! Yawn, or what?

When a BBC staff member was charged with assault earlier this year he was not allowed to continue appearing on our screens. I assume the same rules would apply to people featured on BBC shows like SCD.

Ali has bruised a bone, which is nothing like a normal tissue bruise. Bone pain is arguably the worst type of pain there is.

No he hasn't. He has been released on police bail while they make further enquiries. I was asking what would happen if he was charged while still a contestant. Which may happen but also may not happen.

Hang on, you're expecting the BBC to apply some sort of consistency, where ratings are at stake?

(anyway he's not been charged yet).

Dancing freestyle for the title.....and then the police walk on and arrest him......I wouldnt be at all suprised with whats gone on this series.

Good point about consistency. But they did suspend one of our most popular regional TV presenters so I guess there is some precedent.

Key word being charged - Ricky has not been charged with anything, just bailed pending further enquiries, big difference.

Ricky will be on on the Paul O'Grady show just now.

If you read my original post it said what happens IF he is charged at a later date. I was not suggesting he had been charged. You are quoting a subsequent post in reply to the first one.

Charged or convicted? Could you post a link or a source?

Who knows - BBC are a law unto themselves !

Let`s wait and see if he does get charged before further speculation as to his punishment from the BBC.

Obvious from some of the posts here that some people are disappointed at this outcome. First of all whenever he appears in court, it will be well after SCD 2009 is over and done with. Also under the law of the land, someone is innocent until proven guilty, and if they haven't even been charged with anything why shouldn't they carry on as normal in all aspects of their life?.

Steven Gerrard carried on playing for Liverpool throughout a period when he was on a criminal charge and there are many other examples in soccer. As usual some FM are looking for blood.
