You're not the only one thinking along those lines Starry_Sky It doesn't make sense to me either

I suspect she'll bring to the judging panel what Emma Bunton will bring to the judging panel on Dancing on Ice

Exactly

But that isn't a casting vote!

At the moment, everyone votes. If it's 2-2 (a tie), Len's vote counts for 2 votes, not 1 vote.

With 5 judges, it can never be a tie, so Len's vote will only ever count as 1 vote.

It doesn't matter if he gives it first or last, it still only counts as 1.

I'm not all that excited about Darcey.

She didn't make much of an impression when she appeared on ITT weeks ago.

Hope I'm proved wrong and she turns out to be a valuable contributor to the panel.

I'm not either Sid. I love her dancing but I was disappointed when she was on ITT.

I am hoping that it was just because she hasn't settled into her place on the show yet. Once she feel comfortable there she may show more personality.

i dont get why theyre bringing in an extra judges at all

wot is the point at this stage

ballerinas dont dance the same as ballroom dancers anyway so we have yet another judge talking twaddle

really dont get this

Darcy will pick up straight away, that they don't stand in the "correct" rest position, with their feet at "ten to two."

I'm looking ofrward to seeing Darcey on the pannell. She's a beautiful dancer.

Being a beautiful ballet dancer is hardly qualification for sitting on a panel and judging ballroom dancing.

If the BBC had better high profile celebrities dancing and they were confident in matching the X-Factor ratings with the usual format, I bet they wouldn't have engaged her.

They didn't need anyone in the previous six series did they?
It just smacks of a desperate ratings chase decision.

I love Darcey as a ballet dancer but she certainly is NOT needed and just another example of the BBC wasting licence payers money.

I don't really understand why the BBC feel a need to bring in a fifth judge - if they want Darcey on the panel, I'd rather she replaced Alesha as at least Darcey has a background at a very high, professional level in dance and choreography and she can speak eloquently ... slightly more qualified for the position than a singer who can't even speak properly
