Please forgive this simplistic question from a PVR newbie but I'm not sure how the system works yet. I've got Sky Freesat (no subscription) with an ordinary box and want to be able to record programmmes. I don't fancy Sky plus since for the same annual price I could get a PVR. My question is - no titters please - if I get a PVR how do I connect it up to the dish? Does it simply replace the Sky box and does it need a card of any kind? Or do I have to keep the Sky box in place?

It simply replaces your existing box.

To record two programmes or watch one whilst recording another, you will need a second connexion to the dish (actually to the LNB attached to the dish), which is a straight forward job for an installer.

Fantastic, thanks for that Richard. I didn't realise I needed to run another cable although I can do it since I've got a quad LNB with a spare socket. Do you happen to know if I'd need this second cable if I went for Sky plus instead?

Yes you would for full functionality. 2 tuners really need 2 feeds.

The Humax Foxsat HDR has an LNB loop facility for use with one cable, and gives surprising flexibility, but not the whole 9 yards.

Yes you simply need a second cable for any twin tuner sat pvr although a foxsat-hdr will work pretty well with only one. As you have your own dish and a quad lnb it would be pretty daft not to fit the second cable.

I'm the OP. Just to clarify, since this seems to be an issue. I joined a long time ago and yes, this was my first post because I haven't had anything to ask or contribute so far (mainly because I was living in Japan for much of that time).
