I thought all three Charlestons were excellent, but Ali and Brian's for me was choreographically the most sophisticated. I've not always been convinced by Ali, but I liked her a lot in this dance.
I also thought Ricky's dance off performance was outstanding. |

Technically and for character for me Cola's Charleston was far better than the other two

Seriously, and I'm not just saying it because I'm a WWW but Ricky's DO performance was close to perfect. I didn't get what Craig said until I watched it again on iPlayer, and imho I actually believe that he out-danced his pro partner. He was that good!
Now I've seen Chris's Charleston, I think it's a close call between him and Ali but, would have to agree with the judges (just). My rank for the Charlestons are: Ali Chris Laila |

Laila and Anton and Chris and Ola. I can't choose between them because I thought they were equally brilliant.

Cola, cola, cola!
I've always liked them but not been a huge fan - I'm a total convert now. And I do think that judges scored Ali and Brian higher purely through habit, rather than on tonight's merits - although I thoroughly enjoyed their dance as well, and it was lovely to see Ali's cheeky side, Cola is the one that will stick in my mind. I did enjoy Laila and Anton too but I thought Craig did have a little bit of a point (not as much as he made of it) about heaviness. It just wasn't as crazy-footed as the other two, which is surely a major feature of the dance. Less said about the R&R the better... I'm heartbroken to see Natalie go - as Marian Keyes said on ITT, it was as if she was dancing for all of us not-very-gifted-but-loving-Strictly types - it was probably a fair result. If not a fair dance choice, given that the only thing that really distinguishes R&R from Jive is the fact you can chuck your partner around a lot. And Vincent can't chuck Natalie anywhere. But I bet her Charleston would have been fab! Now I'm thinking about it, both couples really should have done both new dances. Heaven knows there was enough padding in the show tonight, I'm sure they could have made room. |

Ali and Brian for me.
I loved all 3 of the Charlestons tonight but Ali and Brian really pulled a fabulous performance out of the bag. I loved Chris and Olas too but expected them to put in a great performance so it wasn't as much of a surprise. |

Chris and Ola's
I thought Ricky and Natalie's DO was the dance that they should have done earlier. It really lacked energy first time around but was much better second time around. |

1) Ali and Brian
2) Chris and Ola 3) Laila and Anton Very difficult to choose between Ali and Brian and Chris and Ola ... I thought all three couples' Charleston's were absolutely brilliantly inventive and totally re-vitalised and re-energized SCD ... making for a fascinating Quarter Final. |

I think that the Charleston made such a huge impact on all their peformances.. it brought Ali out of her shell. Seemed to bring Laila to form on a faster dance that added character and as for Chris and Ola - genius.
I think they were all great and it should be done at this tage of the competition every cheer. they were ALL a joy to watch. I just felt for Ricky and Cassidy doing the R&R, they must have been green with envy. |

Chris and Ola, they danced well, and had such fun too
Laila and Anton, Laila surprised me, it's the first time she has really looked as if she was enjoying dancing |

I wondered why all 5 couldn't do the Charleston?
The 3 we saw were all completely different - probably because of the nature of the dance - and it was new enough not to be boring if done 5 times. We also had the VW for contrast so there was no problem in that respect. The Charlestons are miles ahead in popularity on this thread so...... ![]() Ali's - more quirky Chris' - more fun Laila's - more of a story ....and all were well danced this week - it's like they all got a new lease of life A change is certainly as good as a rest ![]() I'm sitting on the fence - I loved all 3 (Wish I could stop the cliches )

I think what happened this week perhaps, with the Charleston's at least, is that the celebs and the pro's had some real common ground as it was new to both of them to some extent. I felt like there was much more teamwork this week as the teacher/student dynamic had shifted slightly. The result being so much more fun and enthusiasm from both sides.

Craig RH was preposturous in giving Laila only a 6. Laila's Charleston was as good as Chris's, if not better, and certainly better than Ali's.
I think the agenda of judges in seeking a Ricky Ali final has already been seen - anyone else notice the unsubtle extra point given to Ricky over Laila in the VW, to ensure he finished above her on leaderboard? How could he possibly outscore Laila when she danced it perfectly with the ballroom supremo Anton? Strictly is a joke now. It has been b*stardised. From this point there should be no dance off. The judges continually pushing for the exact opposite of what the public want. Expect to see Chris, the public fav, knocked out in the semi after tactical placement of Ricky & Ali aboving him, forcing him into dance off despite topping public vote. |

All three of the Charlestons for me too, if I had to choose one I'd probably pick Ali and Brians routine as I love the musical Chicago.
I think it would have been fairer for all 5 to do the Charleston as being so different, it obviously had more impact on the audience than the Rock & Roll which is similar to a Jive. |
