I think it's more about the dance techniques in general. Although there are loads of styles, I guess there are some rules/techniques etc etc that run throughout?
Plus she's a big name in the dance industry... |

As I said on another thread, I don't really understand why the BBC feel a need to bring in a fifth judge - if they want Darcey on the panel, I'd rather she replaced Alesha as at least Darcey has a background at a very high, professional level in dance and choreography and she can speak eloquently ... slightly more qualified for the position than a singer who can't even speak properly

She knows about dance in general and about performing which should qualify her about as much as Craig and Bruno (although both have done SCD for so long now they probably know all the technical ins and outs about as well as a ballroom judge).

![]() The most obvious difference is that partner dancing is based on lead-and-follow between two partners, wherea ballet is based on choreographed routines with a variable number of dancers. Also, the conventions of the different Dancing or Latin dances (hold, posture, bases, that sort of thing) are very different from ballet. Quote:
I am sure she knows more than Alesha Dixon.

I was a bit of a tap dancer in my day - honours in my exams dont you know - am I qualified to have a go on the judges panel ?
TBH I always thought it was tenuous link her being a ballerina, however I'm not sure Arlene, Bruno Craig have ever been competative latin or ballroom dancers. When Darcey was on ITT she was very astute and convincing oin her comments. I'm sure her abilities and relevance will become apparent very quickly! |

They really should bring in another Ballroom expert. They have enough people to comment on performance and choreography, having only one judge remotely qualified to judge ballroom seems a bit daft. It is a ballroom dancing competition after all.
Ironically, considering all the stick she gets, Alesha has the most ballroom dancing experience of any of them apart from Len, I would much rather see someone like Karen Hardy come in and judge than another judge who is an expert in a completely different form of dance. |
