Ext HDD as media library

Hi
Purchased a Foxsat HDR a few months ago and have now (just about) gotten used to playing with it! Had Sky previously for many years and lost my patience with constant faults!

My question is regarding storage and playback of media files on an external hard drive. I notice in the instruction book that you can connect an ext drive so I tried with a USB memory stick with an MPEG music video on it but no joy?

My aim is to store all my DVDs on a large 1.5Tb external drive (connect via USB to the front panel) and then be able to play them via the Foxsat HDR. Is this possible? I've read some info on this site regarding formatting of the drive to 'ext3', is this why I can't get it to work at the moment?

Any help gratefully received
Blinkey!

You could not until very recently playback non native video in this way. Thanks to a very clever member of Hummy-org (Raydon) this is now possible

You need to use EXT3 for files larger than 4Gb.
