I was just wondering what people thought about him ?

My personal opinion is -he is a musical genius who has a big ego (but who dosn't in the music industry ) and was largely responsible for the break up of GN'R but now regrets how the band fell apart at the end of their time together .

He tarnished the name GnR by turning it into a joke.

Filthy rich and completely mad.

I was a huge GnR fan too.

I remember watching the Metallica/GnR tour on a Metallica double VHS and thinking wow, this guy's an arse!

I remember when Matt Sorum joined the band after Steven Adler was fired he said he thought he was joining a bad ass rockn'roll band and it was so different to what he was expecting ,he couldn't believe they were using piano's on stage .

There is a bio on the bio channel of him with some good info (the bio program is pants, about 15 minutes of info stretched into 1 hour).

No going on stage because of loosing a contact lense
starting a riot because fans were booing after the band came on 2 hours late
etc. etc.

So, mad as a hatter then

When I saw themat leeds they came on 4 mins late but played a full gig. Even telling the local councillers/organisers to shove it after they said they needed to stop the gig because it was too late and too loud

Got to love him for that

It was a shame not to see Slash though (it was Buckethead at that time).

I think he should have retired GnR and just started his own band like Slash did.

Love GN'R, love Axl too. Don't believe he can take credit for all the band's success though. But still, a legend in my eyes. Crazy bastard, but still a legend!

He is a genius but also an egotistical, nutty control freak.

I still love him though.

He has wrote some amazing songs and is a brilliant frontman, when he turns up to gigs.

he was a beautiful man in his day - axl then

now... axl now

'sweet child of mine' was my favourite song for many years so i'll always admire him for that, but he has a history of being incredibly violent to his girlfriends, which tarnishes him as a "genius" for me.

Yes, (apart from the dodgy corn row hair) he looks more manly now.

I think he's crazy and I don't like the way he keeps the crowd waiting for 2 hours before coming on stage. What purpose does it serve really ?
However he has made some of the best rock music ever and now he starts using Twitter he seems a bit more normal and not some mad recluse as the media led us to believe.

I don't agree about the genius part.I just thought they were a typical hard rocking, hard drinking, drug taking band that captured the time perfectly.Once people started calling him a genius I think he really believed the hype and it ruined the persona he once was.He did write some great songs and GnR are up there as one of my fave bands of all time.My belief that Appetite was their one and only "Great" album will never change though.

I have to give credit to the Use Your Illusion albums though, some utter brilliant songs on that album that really captured what Guns N' Roses wanted to be and had some great work.

They weren't what GnR wanted them to be though. They were what Axle wanted them to be.In Slash's autobiography he says the tracks were all guitar based originally. When he heard the final mix with all the orchestras he was devastated. He's hoping the raw demo's will be released somewhere on the internet.I agree there were some good tracks on them.I laughed out loud when I heard some of the ballads.
I knew it was over for them when I heard my 65 year old mother singing along to November Rain on the radio.
