Has SCD affected Alesha's music career?
I see that Alesha's beautiful single : To Love again (penned by the brilliant Gary Barlow) has slipped from position 15 to 26 in the charts
Lovely song I do not understand why it has not done better - do you think that SCD has damaged Alesha's career? |

TBH I'm an Alesha fan and I haven't got round to buying it yet. Has it had much promotion, I heard it on CIN and really loved it.

Who knows? I do know that she has been on the receiving end of unparalleled venom on these boards, but I don't see how it could affect her music career (I've not heard that single
). The only other thing it could be is "Alesha fatigue" similar to what people express about the likes of Mylene Klaas? Seeing them so often dulls their impact?

I doubt if SCD has affected her music career - I think as pilgrim4j says it's more to do with her ubiquitary presence on our tv screens.
As for the alleged bile - those who find her inadequate as a judge surely have the right to say so. |

I think the problem is that Gary Barlow song is not a very Alesha-like song.
I saw her concert a couple of weeks ago and she was outstanding, but soppy ballards just don't suit her style. |

Music maybe her first love...but it`s a very competitive business and she`s not exactly original;she can`t write her own songs and she`s getting on a bit now for someone who is singing R+B ,in an essentially teens and 20 something market place.....The BBC gave her a big break by offering her the SCD gig......I don`t particularly mind her as a judge but she should have shown more empathy to the contestants with less ability if she wanted to endear herself to the GBP......Like Len does....She did`t come across that well in the show she did with Fearn Cotton either....which was a big surprise to me as I thought she was great in the documentaries she did for BB3 last year.....Sadly she may just be getting a little too big for her boots.

I can't see there being much on an effect from her being a judge, because I think most of her fans will stand by her. I just think it's a poor song, way below Gary Barlow's usual standard. I've heard it a few times, yet I can't remember how it goes.

She didn't have a career before SCD.
The song isn't that great and nor is her singing in it. That's probably why it's done badly in the charts. That said, I haven't liked any of her music. I loved Alesha as a contestant and was willing her to do well musically but 'The Boy Does Nothing' has the most moronic lyrics of any song I can recall. The other one, which thankfully I can't remember, wasn't much better. I dunno though... maybe people who DID like her music have gone off her lately because of the judging fiasco. I certainly did within 3 weeks of her joining the panel. Where once she was down-to-earth and excitable and very unstarry, she now seems haughty and arrogant. She's not been the 'voice of the viewer' or the 'one who can empathise with the celebs' as the BBC intended; she's tried to sound like an expert instead. And the Beeb's stubborn refusal to accept her limitations, like giving her a massive profile on Children in Need, puts me off her even more. |

And the names 'Whitney Houston', 'Mariah Carey', 'Missy Elliot' and 'Lauryn Hill' come to mind in regards to the second emboldened part. Although, you're right in the respect that newer, younger acts are being introduced to us, but they've gotta be good (and not manufactured drivel Simon Cowell thinks we all want to hear; but i digress) if they're gonna stick around. and regardless of everyone's opinions, Alesha's album's gone platinum; so some people must be buying it. |

I'm not having a dig, I'm just giving an honest opinion....I don't think her voice is strong enough for the song. Love some of her other stuff though, which I would argue is more in her range.
