Catsan Cat Litter- Kitten sneezing
Jolene
30-11-2009
My 7 month old has started sneezing since I switched from wood based cat litter to the very expensive Catsan.

I have contacted Catsan who's asked for a sample to be sent to them and will look into it. They said its a possibility it could be the cause of his sneezing.
He has an appointment at the vets this afternoon.

I just wondered if any one else had or has a problem with kitten/cat allergies when swapping cat litter?

We or should I say my three cats use "Sophisticat" (sorry if I spelt it wrong) clumping cat litter and the large bag 20 litre size costs £09:99. We have tried all sorts of cat litter and this seems to be the one my cats like to use.

It's possible that the litter can cause sneezing & I'd be interested in what your vet & Catsan have to say. If your cat uses a covered litter tray & covers up his wee/poo somewhat vigorously, then the dust he creates could cause the sneezing. But if this was the case I would expect the sneezing to stop shortly afterwards. Does he continue to sneeze for a long time afterwards?

Some litters are very dusty as wilhemina says - I am using Catsan at the moment and it raises a fair amount of dust. I don't like it, it isn't clumping and you waste so much, but I've run out of my usual.

The best non dusty ones I have found are the wood pellet (but again I find it a bit wasteful) and the one I usually use, Worlds Best, which is a clumping litter.

Hey all.

My vet said he has got an allergy, and hes guessing its the change in cat litter as there is nothing else changed around the time he started sneezing. He sneezes whilst on it, but also for a short while afterwards.
He has one blocked nose (he had a little snot on his cheek this morning bless him lol) so the Vet has given him a steroid jab to get over the allergy/sniffles.
Also advised to change back to the wood based pellets.

The only reason I changed is that sawdust gets dragged around the floor from his little paws, so for laziness/cleanliness purposes I thought I'd pay 500% more and get Catsan - turns out this happens! Sods law.

Back the the 98p stuff me thinks!

i use chick crumb in my litter trays i find it controls odour better than some litters a large 20kg bag costs me 6.75 and i also use it in my guinea pigs cages under their hay as if it gets eaten it can't do any harm as sawdust isn't good for them

I've been using catsan for the past week while waiting for my delivery of World's Best, and it has resulted in two extra bin bags of heavy rubbish - it's so wasteful! Very pleased when the bags of World's Best arrived this morning.
