Has anyone's dog ever had Cherry eye?

Has anyone's dog ever had Cherry eye? A friend of mine who doesn't use a computer has asked me to find out about it because his dog has had a red 'fleshy' lump (it's a gland of some sort) near its lower eyelid and after having drops all week it's not made any difference so it has to have an operation to have it tucked back in and stitched back into place.

I said I would ask on here because there are a lot of dog owners on this website and someone may have experienced it at some time. I was told to ask if it's a successful operation and if it is likely to pop back out again. Also he didn't ask the vet the cost so is wondering about how much it might be but we know there are huge variations in cost depending on different areas of the country!

not had a dog with one personally but is very common among mastiff breeds and others with droopy skin, the op is pretty straightforward not many probs afterwards from what i gather, cannot add much more i'm afraid

There's more information on the condition here..

My American Cocker Spaniel (RIP Tilly) had it a few times. I hadn't heard of it before so rushed her to the vet the first time because I thought she'd damaged her eye.

He showed me how it can sometimes be possible to put it back in place and luckily I managed to do the same as he did when it happened again a couple of times.

I just had to very gently massage the skin near the "cherry" for a little while and that did the trick.

He did say though that it doesn't always work and that if it occurred on a regular basis she would have to have an operation but I guess she was lucky.
