If Alesha signing up for next year means Arlene isn't coming back then I'm happy

If Alesha does judge again I think I'll make sure I have something better to do on a Saturday night.

It's a slap in the face for Arlene, if that article is reporting accurately.

This year is the last time for me then, I've watched it on iplayer (after suffering the first couple of weeks) and scrolled past her comments but I'll just not bother next year.

So 8.5 million people like her then and it is just my select group of friends that don't.
![]() If it is true and the BBC think that she is doing a first class job then I do think that Alesha and the producers do need someone to show them recordings of the show - reflect on the viewing figures and even read some of the posts of the fora - undoubtedly she has her fans but I reckon this number is outnumbered by those who don't rate her as a judge If Alesha cannot see that this is not her finest hour then we will be stuck with her ![]() ![]()

Strictly is now topping 9 million viewers and 10 m at peak. The ratings have not fallen away since Blackpool.
And we know what happened there. So Alesha is doing what she was paid for, as far as the BBC is concerned. |

Why doesn't it surprise me that the BBC would consider her performance first class.
Alesha, You was rubbish!

The only way anyone will make a difference when it comes to decisions like this is if they stop watching. It (obviously) starts and ends with audience ratings. Every person who comes on here to complain about Alesha's performance on Saturday night is someone who has watched the show, and has therefore had at best zero impact on the decision, and at worst simply reinforced it by adding to the viewing figures.
If you really want to make a difference, do what Ignazio and others have said they'll do and stop watching. Until then you're simply part of your own problem. |

Noooooooo - I can't stand her, sorry. Loved her as a dancer, don't think she should be there as a judge. I don't pay any heed to what she says, her opinions don't even count as far as I'm concerned. Hope she changes her mind and moves onward and upward away from Strictly.

The problem is if you do that you're cutting off your nose to spite your face. I don't want Alesha to return but in spite of the general messing around with it and problems this year I still enjoy watching the show.

I totally understand that, and that's the balance that every viewer has to weigh up for themselves - am I prepared to carry on watching the show despite the things that I don't like, or does it put me off so much (as it clearly does for a few posters on this thread) that I'm not going to watch it anymore? My general point is that all the constructive criticism, or complaints, or plain hate that is posted on these boards is worth nothing until the person writing it backs it up with their choice of viewing.
Viewers currently using the mute button in self defence every Saturday are probably not registering on the Beeb's audience sampling monitors. The public have no say on SCD8 except for silence and switchoff? Yes they have. The public are ingenious, and petitions have been started for less than this. Public response will probably be overwhelming. |

Surely she was hired to increase the size of the audience, rather than maintain it.

If that's what she was being paid to do, then she should have been paid a lot more than everybody else!

This would be like quitting a lovely job just because there is one painful person in the office.

The public have no say on SCD8 except for silence and switchoff? Yes they have. The public are ingenious, and petitions have been started for less than this. Public response will probably be overwhelming. All this talk about petitions, OFCOM and the like which gets trotted out on here on a regular basis is nothing more than hot air in the face of basic economic forces. It doesn't matter whether we like Alesha or hate her, think Bruce is past it or love him. Our opinion on any aspect of the show has no impact on the show itself until it has an impact on the number of people watching. |

I have nothing against Alesha, but I much prefer Arlene as a judge. Why we need a four person panel is beyond my understanding when the far superior DWTS only have three.

Oh, I really, really hope that this rumour turns out to be true!
![]() Quite apart from the fact that I much prefer Alesha to Arlene and can't stand the sight of Karen Hardy, just to know it'll be one in the eye for all the Alesha haters on this forum who have wasted their time scrutinising her appearances in order to come up with weekly (daily?) reasons to write long, tedious, pontificating and spiteful things about her! What a hoot!

According to our paper here, the BBC says the 31 year old singer " has been doing a first-class job " and is looking forward to welcoming her back. Contracts are to be signed closer to the beginning of next years series. Alesha is confident that she will be able to do the show as well as carrying on with her music career.

The key number that the BBC will look at is the final, though. They would expect it to be over 12 million based on the two last years. I can see another "sensational development" in the semi-final, to drum up interest. With Chris likely to be the beneficiary. |
