SCD 2009 - What did they get right?

Having just read through the SCD 2010 revamp thread which is full of constructive criticism about what to change for the better next year. I was just wondering what people thought they had got right this year.

For me some highlights have been

- Blackpool, great to hold a show there felt like a real event that perked the show up mid-series

- Having couples dance both a latin and a ballroom pre first elimination

Introducing the Charleston - fantastic fun!

And letting Claude do the Tesspit when Bricie was sick.

Agree with both of those, although I would rather the couples were not split into groups of eight first. They should all dance both Latin and ballroom before the first elimination.

Love the introduction of the new dances, although as Craig said on ITT tonight, they should all dance the same dance.

Loved the marked Group Dance, but would prefer a ranking system than the usual marks out of 10.

Loved the celebs - no one to have a serious moan about!

Loved the introduction of the new pros.

Will keep thinking!

Getting shot of that useless gurning Rav early on.

I miss seeing the lovely Aliona though...

Good one! One of the best nights!

Claudia filling in for Tess was a brilliant idea. They could so easily have opted for some other random presenter who filled in just to add it to their list of work, despite never showing much optimism for the show ever before. Claudia worked perfectly because we know she loves the show.

Love that each couple got to perform a Ballroom and Latin before the first elimination.

Going to Blackpool for the one week was a superb idea and gave the show a real boost that week.

So, basically, I think I just repeated what's already been said.

2 dances before an elimination

Seeing that there most definately IS life after Bruce

The Charleston

The improvement in ITT with far less 'super fans'. The introduction of coreography corner and talk about the dresses etc

The emergence of James and Ola as likeable and fun.

Added the Charleston - perhaps other dances will get similar supporting outfits/make up and choreography if the dancers are going to match the entertainers and clowns and have a hope of some votes.

Made the judges panel as a whole more positive or at least positive enough to stop the anti-judge vote.

Bizarrely they got the female casting right to the extent they put in 3 good spares to allow one good female to get past the voters and the injury minefield. It looks like even that was too few for safety.

Blackpool....Charlston/R+R theme

I`am not going to moan about this series. The overall standard may not have been as high as previous years but that`s just the luck of the draw....Likewise, the injury to Jade was no more than bad luck and the early elimination of Zoe was nothing more than a quirk of the public vote......but please BBC....just ensure we have 3 finalists.....and then add I can add that decision to what has been right about this years series.

Blackpool, new dances and Latin/Ballroom week definitely.

Bringing Blackpool back was loooooong overdue and it as the most AWESOME night. I loved every second of it. The two new dances are great fun too, although I'd have preferred a Lindyhop rather than a R&R which is a bit too similar to the jive for me.

The best thing was scrapping the men .v. women weeks which never worked IMO. It implied there was a man and a woman who deserved to go in the first two weeks when this might not be the case - might be a woman for three weeks or vice versa, and this makes it much fairer.

Biggest one for me is scrapping the HATED Sunday pre-recorded show. Although the show now drags a bit, it feels like proper Strictly when it's all live.

2 dances before anyone was eliminated
The Charleston (wish it had come a week or two sooner)
Karen doing choreography corner
Letting James so some presenting etc to show off a different side of him
Results show on a Saturday (although a break in between might be better)
I think most of the partnerships have been well matched, although that's always as much by luck than judgement.

They produced a TV series of which, despite my criticisms here and there and a cast with some obvious shortcomings, I've watched every minute through 13 live shows...and have every intention of watching all remaining minutes of the last 3.

Most of what others have repeated but here's mine anyways -

1. Bringing the show back to Blackpool

2. Getting Claudia to do Tess's job and Tess Brucie's job (I wouldn't mind Tess taking over from Bruce when he retires)

3. Letting Matthew Cutler have a solo dance along with Aliona..

4. Introducing the Charleston (I loved it, but wouldnt mind if the Rock 'n' Roll wasnt back).

Pretty similar:

Celebs doing both Ballroom and Latin
Bringing in Alesha
The Blackpool buzz
Tess replacing Bruce and Claudia replacing Tess
James and Karen's ITT slots
The partnerships have all worked billiantly
The backstage pass with the backroom peeps.

Very good post. When I read the occasional "After this I won't be watching any more" or similar, my first thought is "precious t**t" which quickly dissolves into "ppfffffttt !".

They're always back moaning the following week.

Blackpool

Claudia and Tess for showing life after Bruce - and NOT one of the BBC dinosoars

New time slot - we can now timeslip Burp / Framed and X factor easier

Results live

New pros (except Natalie Lowe)

New judge

I would say it would be nice for a break between the main and results shows, and I'd like to see an odd number of judges so Lennie doesn't get the final say. I'd add Karen to the panel. Alesha has been OK to me (never want to see Arlene on TV ever again), but I feel her role hasn't been defined either by the BBC or her. Maybe that's what the Beeb want, but that change I'd make is to define what she judges on.

Enjoyed having Claudia on Strictly. More please.
ITT has been very good this year. Enjoy the feature with Karen (she should be a judge and get rid of Aleshia. Karen is a pro dancer with years of experience has competed and WON Strictly and is ARTICULATE!)
Like the feature on Celebs and Dancers homes
Love the Charleston
Dislike the clash of time schedules as I cannot tape on my FREE BOX BBC if I am watching ITV at the same time. I have to decide which show to watch. Last year enjoyed having the shows follow each other.
Surprisingly this year I have enjoyed the celebs although I did not know many of them. Love Chris and Ola. Ricky (never watch Hollyoaks) is a great dancer but I had no idea who he was!!
