I can't understand the negativity and vitriol this year. (Or any year, come to think of it!) All this "SCD is finished because of..." and "I hate..." is depressing to me. The former because it gets churned out each year. The latter because hating someone in something so trivial as a dance competition when you've never met them is not the sort of characteristic I want in my fellow citizens! This year has been great: - The spectacularly bad Joe Calzaghe - Jo taming Brendan - Wondering quite how the judges could be any more damning of the pair of them than they were the previous week - Jade and Ian's Quickstep - It will be a long time before a celeb lady leaps off the steps and covers 20 feet in the air whilst dragging her 6ft+ partner with her - Delusional Craig. Each week I thought he'd fess up and admit he was cr*p but he never did - Flavia's heroism in the face of the above - Anton's latin - truly unique! - Wondering each week "will Katya kill Phil this week or can the Cat charm his way through another week of messing around?" - Pantomime outrage from Craig when Zoe and Ali were in the DO - Anton's Charleston - truly memorable! - Richard Whittle's parents' interviews - Chris Hollins - He's got a more annoying dance face than Tom, but his enthusiasm and self-depracating humour are just so infectious - And not forgetting the addition of Tina Sparkle to the pros roster. Life imitates art at last! Other than Jade's demise, the only really bad bit was Tuffers going out; this was a few weeks too early, but hey ho. It's only Saturday night telly. (Not that I was quite so phlegmatic when Oz got the boot last year!!)Every time I see 'Tina Sparkle' mentioned on the forum I laugh. It is so appropriate.

I am getting mightily sick of everyone forming into their teams now the Quarter Finals are here. Its all Ali vs Ricky vs Laila vs Chris. Like we have to get into one group and stay there, or we have to make snipy remarks about whether we are Dance Purists or Light Entertainment Lovers. Its like being back at bloody school.
I am Laura and I am a Dance Purist. However, although I have said Strictly should be won on dancing merit, I have also said I can understand why for some, being entertained and enjoying someone's journey or personality is a bigger factor for them. I am also an ardent Ricky Whittle fan. But I love Ali too and I love Chris too. I refuse to be drawn into the Couples War that inevitably happens on these forums. This is why I left the BBC forums last year, the battle lines were too clearly drawn. I want to support more than one couple in general and would be happy if Ricky, or Ali or Chris won. Although Im not a Laila fan, I not going to slag her off. If you cant say anything nice, better not say anything at all. All these nasty threads picking out Laila's 'fake injury in the past, or how Ricky is akin to some criminal thug or how Ali is a wet lettuce are pointless. And now all the anti-Chris threads are happening. We're all adults and know who we want to win, or at least should by now with 3 weeksto go until the final. So why are people creating nasty threads or making nasty comments about the celebs or each other? Are we schoolchildren? Cant we all look to the bigger picture and realise we have 3 more weeks left of some brilliant Strictly shows ahead of us? Some great dances for the DP's, some entertainment for those who enjoy it. And 4 quarter finalists who, regardless of if you feel the standard is poor or are injured or arrested, have worked as hard as they have felt able to so they can dance as best as they could for us. I probably will get flamed for this thread or it wont last long, I just needed to have a rant as the closer we get to the final, the worse this forum could get. ![]()

I really respect and admire Ali and love her partnership with Brian. I would love them to win but, having said that, I support Chris and Ola and think they have such chemistry - it's been a joy to watch them and they have been so entertaining. I love watching Anton doing ballroom and he has a very good partner in Laila and Ricky Whittle can dance.
I am rooting for Ali and Brian to win but quite honestly I wouldn't be upset if any of them lifted the trophy. |

Hey, Dr Bol.
Your positive threads are just the tonic this forum needs. I congratulate you on your diagnosis! Since Jade's departure, I'm not really rooting for any of the final four and would be quite happy with a victory for anyone (oops, do I qualify for this thread?). I just hope that: Ali gains in confidence so that I can enjoy some more beautiful dances without my heart in my mouth worrying for her when I see her shaking with fear. Chris continues to improve so that, should he win, people can't decry it as being purely down to the entertainment factor. Laila does knuckle down and fulfil the potential that she plainly has. Ricky manages to achieve a fault free performance, as Bruno mentioned, to truly thrill us all and silence his critics. Then we'll have quarters, semis and a final to relish, whatever the outcome. Oh, and I really, really hope that Jade and Ian perform a breathtaking tango for us in the final. |

Hello, I've been lurking here and posting the odd thing or too....I'm a forum novice and have found the level of vitriol from some posters intimidating and it has stopped me posting often. However I'm back to my real life soon (end of mat leave) - so wanted to say thank you to Dr Bol for this thread (you often say what I'm thinking)...
I don't mind who wins now, they have all danced / journeyed well enough to deserve their places in the QF. I love the show and it's a fab way to spend time with my three year old - who makes me dance along with her and every couple. So my only negative comment is less couples next year, swinging a three year old round along with 16 couples nearly killed me and she'll be four then!!! |

Great post DrB.
![]() I would have loved to see jade go through to the final and now she isn't here, one part of me would like to see Team Cola win, just because they have such a great chemistry, but for the dancing probably Ricky because despite a few faults he is really very good. But I like Laila a lot and don't want JohnfromWales' hammy imploding with rage if she doesn't win. Ali also deserves to win for her dancing. |

I'm in
![]() I'm sort of in the Team Cola camp, but I wouldn't be gutted if any of the four left won (although I may strop slightly if Chris doesn't make the final - I won't flounce off like I did last year when the whole Austin thing happened )Ali/Brian - she's a lovely dancer and I'm still convinced they're going to forget themselves and have a big old snog on camera soon - if they win they might just do it Ricky/Nat - she scares the living daylights out of me, strong, confident women have the effect on me, I'm a wimp But he's a fab dancer and if they win it's fully deserved.Lalia/Anton - worth the win if only to see my 80+, bad hipped, mother dance a jig of delight if her dancing boyfriend finally lifts the glitterball - and I rather like Lalia as well |

Agree with all the sentiments on here. What a nice thread and may it stay that way
![]() OP, I know what you mean about the Beeb boards. Last year I went into a couple of really nasty Lisa threads to try and defend her and got completely shot down Now I hardly go on those boards at all. I also tend to avoid all these nasty threads now and just concentrate on the positive ones.It is possible to support a couple without having complete vitriol and hatred for another. |

Its so great to read some positive posts about all the dancers so this thread is excellent. Thanks Dr Bol
I look askance at all those silly bashing threads and all those posters' right to their "opinions" I am a Ricky fan because I happen to enjoy watching him dance and because I think he is the best dancer. I like his partner Natalie too. Yes, of course she wants to win. Don't they all?! I also love Chris and Ola - who on earth could possibly hate those two? Also Ali and Brian are a magic partnership. My least favourite is the beautiful Laila, but I don't hate her! Long may this thread last. |

What a lovely, refreshing thread.
I like all the remaining celebs and I loved Natalie Cassidy (she did have great popular support despite nasty forum remarks, which are hardly an accurate cross section of the public). I think she went at the right time, ie had gone as far as she could, but didn't she do well? I feel quite proud of her, don't know why as she is nothing to do with me but that's how I feel, daft as it may sound. Yes, all the remaining ones are great. If I had to pick a favourite it would be Ali, she is a delight to watch. Ricky is, of course, marvellous when he is on form. Last week was a difficult one for him (some members on here turned against him too, never mind "innocent until proven guilty"), but obviously that cannot be used as an excuse. I really hope he gets his act together this week and wows us on Saturday. Thank you for this thread, much appreciated. |
