I don't know why I'm getting excited about this, but I am! DSO tonight for Granada region, so the question is - will all of those DHD4000s that had problems from the November retune come back to life? Or will those that were alright before develop new problems tomorrow? Or will nothing change?!?

On one hand, if it does all go Pete Tong tonight for my DHD4000 at least I know what to ask Santa for! Then again, would I go Freesat+ HD PVR or Freeview?

My prediction - having faith in the DHD4000 I think all problems will be resolved, and we'll be back to normal reliable service for all DHD4000s.

Anyone else want to put their reputation on the line (such as it is?)

Didnt have time to retune mine this morning so i certainly hope thats the case, i have been lost without my 4000!

I'm off winter hill. I've just rescanned and found only 63 channels - (I think I used to get 88).
All my BBC channels are missing. I'm getting wholeheartedly sick of this messing now. I thought digital was supposed to be better?

I can only get 13 channels! (from just 1 mux) Off to the shops to get a Humax!

Be wary about the Humax slowdowns reported! I had planned to go that route but 9200 users are reporting real problems and the 9300 doesn't seem that much better.

I bought a Topfield 5800 and whilst I agree there is a certain cult-like attitude to them, once the MyStuff 6.1 TAP is on there it's an amazing box. There's a seller on ebay knocking them out best offer at £130 + postage currently.

I got 96 channels when I scanned this morning, couldn't see any noticeable gaps. The box identified 5 multiplexes, all of them from the "right" end of the progress bar (indicating to me that they were the muxes in the 50s / 60s).

Following my post this morning though I did have some problems with tuner 2 not locking onto the stored channels. That seemed to be reasonably intermittent, but I'll have a more lengthy play this evening.

No channels were blocking / breaking up. Reception was crystal clear.

Interestingly, my Panasonic TV scanned and found channel 29 (yes, I don't practice what I preach, I do have a wideband aerial!) rather than channel 55 when it first scanned first of all, but that was easily fixed by scanning with the aerial out for the first few frequencies.

I'm getting the full complement, 5 muxes with 97 channels. Signal strength/quality is very good, but performance is not good. Many channels including the main BBC and ITV channels are a little blocky, not severe, but enough to annoy. And channels are sometimes blank until I select the next then back again.

Can't see much of a link between the blocky channels except possibly they may be the higher bitrate channels. I haven't had much chance to tweak the signal levels yet, it may still be an overload issue.

We're getting 7 muxes with 107 channels. Signal strength/quality around 7 or 8. We are also getting most channels a little blocky, for the past four weeks this only applied to BBC channels. Looks like the DHD4000 doesn't like the new digital signals from Winter Hill.

Sounds similar to my issue around tuner 2 not locking onto the frequency. One to watch I think.

Well that was exactly what i didnt want to hear! Still i'll be home later (after retuning various elderly relatives equipment on my way home) and will see for myself. I have got a variable attenuator that i bought hoping it would solve the issues with just BBC mux but it didnt. Might be time to kiss the 4000 goodbye if it doesnt work.

Im thinking i might build a Mythtv box anyway so that i can add a DVB-t2 card when they become available!

Made some time to have a more thorough look at this, and whilst I've got no firm conclusions there are definitely some gremlins in there.

Box was still failing to lock onto some channels intermittently when moving through, presumably as it switched tuners. Not only was the screen blank, but no summary EPG info came up. Thinking about this now, perhaps wiping the EPG might help in some way, though I can't see why. Eventually I was able to see every channel though it took some time.

This morning thought I would re-scan to see what happened. To my complete surprise it found no muxes and no channels, and did this a few times. I reset the box by pulling the plug, and when it rebooted got a display of all lights (excluding the blue ones), something which I've not seen before. Rebooted again without the aerial connected and this time it started up fine.

Rescanned after this, and this time it found 6 muxes (1 from early on, presumably 29 from Storeton) but only 96 channels. All expected channels were there.

Tried again to wipe references to channel 29 and again it picked up no muxes and no channels.

So despite my faith in this box, I do think there is something which isn't working quite right under the new 64QAM / 8k setup.

On the other hand, picture quality is same as it has ever been - no breakup, no distortions, all fine.

Reception-wise, am I the only WH DHD4000 user that isn't getting any picture breakup? I'm starting to feel like a lone voice of "its working for me"?!? I'm not particularly close to WH (Frodsham, north Cheshire) though do have good line of sight to WH. Signal strength is reported as 7, quality 9 on most muxes.

My only issue seems to be locking into the channels on a few occasions. The symptoms are that if I switch from watching one channel to another I get a completely black screen, no now/next info box appearing, etc. This morning whilst trying to understand this a little more I found that if I had such a black screen and went into the guide, after a couple of seconds the preview would lock onto the channel and thereafter be watchable in full screen too. I didn't wipe the EPG, though will try this over the weekend, just to see if there is something missing in there.

But otherwise, everything working fine - by why just me? I did have the PSU repaired by Michael at Digifix about 6 months ago (aka the capacitor fix, just I wasn't competent to do it myself!), I wonder whether the combination of 64QAM and 8k asks the tuners to work "harder", and as mine has fresh caps I get a small advantage over others.

Both my dad and my father in law have the same box and receive from WH too, and they haven't reported any problems to me either - they both have completely "stock" boxes with no mods at all, one in Bury (therefore quite close to WH) and one on the far side of the Wirral (where reception was previously quite marginal).
