so i couldn't wait til xmas...

and on sunday afternoon i set it all up - went and bought some omnimount elo's for the front left and right speakers, and set the rears at the required height on the back wall.

did the auto config and off i went. first thing i watched was the football in HD on sky. took me a while to realise that you can select an HDMI input then a second input for the audio, but once i'd done that i was away - superb!

AND THEN...

my transformers blu-ray came out, and OMFG it's like watching a different film!! for as long as i've had my hdtv i've appreciated films a lot more with it being a good size, but it is the sound that makes it!!

i know this is nothing new to everyone who already has and has had 5.1+ for a long time but i don't think i'll ever forget my first reaction!

thanks again guys for all your advice!

Go up to the amp now and get down on your knees and promise you will never ever abuse the poor thing like this ever again.

Subjecting it to football when it's barely out of the box, you should be ashamed of yourself.

(you may have guessed by now that I am not a footie fan )

IMHO football should be banned (BTW there are some great porno's out there with 5.1 sound )
What sub did you end up with?

Not so sure about the film either, but then I haven't seen it

I would sooner poke my eyes out with a blunt stick than watch a game of football.

And I say this as someone who has actually sat through a football match at Wembley stadium (old version, it was many years ago) and not taken any notice of what was going on on that grassy bit in the middle

I was paid to be there by the way, wouldn't have gone there voluntarily, but my boss who should have been there fell ill. So I had to sacrifice a Saturday at home watching paint dry to do something really boring instead

I remember the first time I got DPL, it was a Technics amp, I couldn't afford a proper speaker package so used my existing hi-fi speakers for the fronts and bought two cheap Phillips speakers for the backs, set it up and played Always on video through it.

If you have not seen the movie there's a bit at the beginning where a fire plane flies down to pick up water for a fire, it comes towards you scooping the water up, then flies right over the top of you and out through your back wall.

Things just got better from then on - I later bought a centre speaker, then a sub, then upgraded to Dolby Digital, DVD etc etc, have been upgrading ever since, it's cost me a small fortune but worth every penny.

So I know exactly how you are feeling - enjoy it to the full.

I'd normally steer clear of people who don't like football but you've obviously got a sense of humour so I'll let you off
