appologies i placed this in the wrong forum last week and got no replies , so i have now posted in the correct forum,


ive never had a lot to do with thomson dtr's, but i have just installed one for a freind, so far im not impressed,
first of all the signal was disgustingly low according to the tuner's signal strength meters
signal strength of 2 on both tuners but with signal quality of 10
on both tuners
after the initial install, all chanels could be recieved, but
i keep looseing bbc1 or bbc2 and sometimes several itv chanels
all have worked flawlessly on his old on digital box up the the switch off of bbc2 analogue.
so i have today replaced the arial and coax, and now get a signal of 8-9 on both tuners,
what i realy whant to know is ,
does the dti 6021 output its content via a inbuilt rf modulator
he had the main tv conected via scart, then a tv in the kitchen, conected to the rf output on his old box
but i cant find an modulated rf signal from the rf2 socket on the back,
am i right in thinking its just used as a rf throughput, with no modulated signal from the dti

also as a post note, does anybody know the correct procedure ( not the one in the manual ) for resetting the box to factory defaults, apparently there are 3 different types of reset, i want the one that will clear the memory and tuning buffers,
as to many retunes can cause coruption in the memory and hence my problem of keep loosing bbc2 then itv alternatively

Engineer's Menu. Menu - Setup - Help - then press 1397.

Advanced Information. Menu - Setup - Help - then press Green Button. From the advanced menu you can select -

RED. Factory Defaults
YELLOW. Software revert
BLUE. Format HDD

On page 33 of the manual there are 2 reset methods, senario 2 & 3.

The RF output is just an amplified loop through.

i didnt know about the 1397, thats good to know for future
refrence,
unfortunatly, i got a phone call this morning, just as i was leaving for work,
the owner of the 6021 was pulling his hair out, so i called up after work,

it had slowly gone worse, turn it on and all was well,
change channel, and every channel was no video with blocky sound, turn it off and then on again and it was fine untill you changed a channel , then the same thing,
whilse it was showing this fault, i went into the menu and had a look at the signal strength & quality,
signal was fine but the qaulity had gone down to zero on both tuners, turn off and then turn back on quality was back up at 10

also recorded programmes would sometimes play fine but other times would break up constantly

so in the box and back to comet, who stood their groung stating that we have never yet had any of these boxes back with faults, and the fault lies with the antenna installation,

new antenna, new coax, correctly aligned with signal of 8 - 9
and signal quality of 10 constant ( unless you change channel )

after a word with the manager, they agreed that they should replace the box, but as i thought , they had none in, so my friend paid an extra £20 and got the fergusson
f10500 pve,
it wouldent supprize me if it's not the same chassis,
but so far so good apart from there being n signal strength
or signal quality in the software,

so we will see how it goes
