What connections have you got on the Wii?

If this is the Samsung you were talking about in your other thread then it appears it has mini-jack for AV and Component and should have supplied adapter leads that split out into phono sockets.

So you should have one adapter which splits out to red, white and yellow phonos and a second that splits out to red green and blue.

Basically if the Wii has red white and yellow phono plugs then use the Samsung adapter with the same colour sockets. Match the plug colours and plug into the AV socket on the TV, which seems to be the left hand of the two.

If the Wii has a full Component video which means red, green and blue video leads and red and white audio then you need both Samsung adapters. You need to plug the red, green and blue video connectors into the same coloured plugs on the Component Video adapter. And the red and white audio plugs into the red, white and yellow AV adapter. Leave the yellow empty. Then plug the component video plug into the right hand socket and the audio plug into the left hand.

Just don't mix up the red audio with the red video!

That is what the manual i found on line seems to suggest anyway.

Bit lost here not sure what's got what. Red White and Yellow is Right Audio, Left Audio and Composite video. This is the same as provided on a scart lead but these have the same connections in both directions.

Component is a quality video only connection, the wii as standard only has the composite connections. You can buy a lead for a wii that has component out (red/green/blue plugs and a stereo pair red and white) which should be able to connect to a TV with a component input to give the best picture

Get out your TV user manual and turn to page 12.
Now use the cable thats pictured in the middle which is Yellow/White/Red and plug that into the AVin(5 on the picture) on the TV.
Now plug the Wii's Yellow/White/Red cable into that.
Now select the AV device using the source button.

I also recommend that you enable the Game Mode otherwise you suffer a small amount of lag.
Also I would purchase a Wii component cable to get a better image on screen.

Straight out of the box there are two ways to connect a Wii to a TV:

1. Use the supplies lead, which has three phono connections, red & white, for left & right sound, and yellow, which is the composite video output. If your TV has a component video input, coloured yellow, connect the yellow phono plug to that input. Then do the same for the red and white phono connectors for the sdound.

2. Also inside the Wii box is a composite to SCART connector. In this instance you connect the three leads from the Wii cable, red, white, and yellow, to the three connectors on one side of the adaptor, and then connect the adaptor to a spare SCART socket on your TV.

Unless your TV auto detects the input, you will probably have to manually change the SCART input to Composite rather than the usual default of RBG in the menu.

As has already been said, there are a couple of upgrades that can be done.

1. Purchase a Wii component output cable, this will provide RGB outputs to your TV, if your TV has RGB inputs.

2. Purchase a Wii to SCART RGB cable to connect to a spare SCART connector on your TV.

Both of these options will provide a slightly improved 480p putput for your TV.

Also set the input for Game mode assuming it has that option.

I put one of those cables in a 50 " tv and couldnt notice any picture quality

you have to accept the Wii as not a great picture quality console

just buy a scart connector block adaptor or a Wii to RGB scart connector, and then your probally better off buying the leads !!

I thought this came in the box ??

If a composite picture looks the same as a RGB or Component output the wii must have truly awfull video processing.

The adaptor won't give you an rgb connection it's the same composite connection you get with discrete RCA phonos just input through a scart socket.

Or the TV was not switching properly to RGB.

If your TV has a component video input, coloured yellow, connect the yellow phono plug to that input.
Do you see your mistake here?
If you're going to give out advice take the time to read and edit your post.

Yep but it's quite easy to say component when you mean composite, happens to everyone occasionly

So would I be correct in assuming every single one of your posts is totally perfect and free from error? The basic information was correct, connect the yellow plug from the Wii to the yellow coloured connector on the TV.

Mistakes happen and life's too short.....

I bought a limited edition black wii yesterday and a component cable. The picture using component on my 40" Sony is way better than the composite output. (Which is what you would expect)

Of course compared to a x box 360 or PS3 it's not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination

If you're using Component cables, it's best to switch the Wii to EDTV 480p output, otherwise there won't be that big an improvement from the composite cable.

Only works if you are using a component cable to connect to the TV.
