Do you mean Greg Lake? Or did Palmer also do a version? However this song is my favourite too.

Too much cheese before bed will kill you, but seeing as it's only seven o'clock I'll admit to my faves including:

All I Want For Christmas - Mariah
Mary's Boy Child - Boney M
Another Rock 'N' Roll Christmas - G*** G******
Cheeky Christmas - Cheeky Girls
Last Christmas - Le Sport (euro electropop cover of the eye-scratching-outingly awful you-know-who original)

On a slightly more credible note, I'd also have to plump for the aforementioned Waitresses' Christmas Wrapping, and Saint Etienne/Tim Burgess's I Was Born On Christmas Day.

Other than that I think they're mostly interminable shite, especially that whole played-to-death-from-September-onwards cycle of 70's 'classics' that have long been held in unimpeachable legend.

The most imperative to avoid though? Let's just say I'd happily see Christmas banned if it meant never being exposed to one bar of East 17's Stay Another Day again.

'Wonderful Christmas Time' by Paul McCartney, don't know why but fo me it's THE Christmas tune.

Don't Shoot M Santa by The Killers.
It's so random but I love it!
And the video is AWESOME! I need to steal their sweaters!

But I also love the good old classics like Last Christmas, Merry Christmas Everybody, Step Into Christmas, Wonderful Christmastime and Fairytale of New York.

And Jona Lewie's "Stop The Cavalry" has a nice, christmassy feel to it, too!

Definitely

1. Fairytale of New York - The Pogues and Kirsty McCall
Have seen this sung live twice by the Pogues in the week before Christmas (20 years ago in Glasgow and latterly 2 years ago in Manchester and it was still as special as ever) Love it!

2.) The Power of Love - Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Really beautifully and powerfully sung.
(Not strictly sure if you'd class it as a Christmas song but it was out at that time of year and the video has a lot of religious imagery in it)

For me, most of the rest of the usual Xmas songs merge a bit into into wallpaper shopping music, lol !
Except maybe, 'Driving home for Christmas' by Chris Rea, which has real feelgood vibes !

My two favourite Christmas CDs are by Josh Groban and Hayley Westenra. They're great if you want something a bit more classical to mix things up. There's something so magical and spiritual about the traditional songs. My fave tracks are:

1. What Child is This? -- Josh Groban
2. O Come All Ye Faithful -- Josh Groban
3. Carol of The Bells -- Hayley Westenra
4. Corpus Christi Carol -- Hayley Westenra
5. Little Drummer Boy -- Josh Groban

The CDs are 'Noel' by Josh Groban and 'Winter Magic' by Hayley Westenra -- Hayley also has some great originals on there: All With You and Peace Shall Come.

They're on You Tube, so you should check them out!

Wasn't Greg Lake's song meant to be a rant at commercialisation of Christmas, or the actual message being lost admist the wrapping & Turkeys?

And Jona Lewie's song wasn't meant to be about Christmas until they added that line "wish I could be home for Christmas..."

Bah Humbug!!!
