Rage Against The Machine to take on 'The X Factor' for Christmas Number One

Thousands of fans sign up to Facebook petition to buy 'Killing In The Name'

http://www.nme.com/news/rage-against-the-machine/48727

So far roughly 45000 signed up to buy Killing in the name to prevent X Factor taking over the Christmas number 1.

There's a huge campaign on twitter too.

I'm so pleased with this. The X Factor shouldn't hold the number 1 single every year. It used to be a contest to be the number 1 at Christmas. Now we can kill off Cowell's dominance and his Miley Cyrus song.

All together: 'F*** you I won't do what you tell me!'

I'd say more than just those who join the group will buy it.

that's the same point i made on this thread in the x factor section.

lots of people i know have joined various facebook groups like this, but they won't bother to buy the song. they just join them to make a point.

Why Internet groups are a waste of time.....

There's no point. People have done this loads already with numerous different songs. People are going to be buying loads of different songs, but not enough to beat the Xfactor. It's a lost cause.

The X Factor is unstoppable. No chance. Jeff Buckley didn't come close last year (sales wise).

And if any song should be bought as a protest, it'd be Miley, imo.

The funny thing is RATM are on Sony the same record company that Mr.Cowell works for , so by buying this your just going to be giving more money to Sony.

I'd suggest that the vast majority of people who are outraged about X-Factor being Christmas No.1 couldn't give a shit about the charts for 51 weeks of the year. If you really want to rebel against them, make it 52.

Campaigns? They revel in it.

dont forget its not JUST the x factor that does this. its the british public, they are sheep, of the most sheepish form! i only ever bought 1 x factor winners single, and that was alexandra last year, because i actually liked her version of the song. the rest of the winners singles really have been dire, but have still sold ridiculous amounts. its sad.

the best thing would be if:

1. none of these anti-x factor christmas no.1 campaigns existed.

2. all artists just simply didn't bother releasing anything in december, and everyone just allowed x factor to have the xmas no.1 all to themselves.

then let's see how excited the x factor mob get about their precious christmas no.1. sadly neither of these will happen, and they will continue to go hysterical over the fact that thousands of sheep will buy anything they release.

The funniest thing is the thought of x-factor fans sat watching Christmas Top Of The Pops and getting a surprise at the end.

I'll happily pay 79p for that priviledge along with many others. Besides, it'll publicly show Simon Cowell to change the record as it were.

a) it won't happen.

b) Why would it change anything Simon Cowell does? The X-Factor song will still sell by the shedload.

DAMN IT!!!

NME and Yahoo have backed the wrong campaign! Bob Dylan's "Must Be Santa" is for charity AND to piss off Simon Cowell, that's 2 good causes, plus it's a great Christmas song.

to me, ^that^ is why these things don't usually work - the "anti-xfactorists" have several options, whereas those who are pro-xfactor only have one.

there's no single, solid alternative popular enough to go up against it (given last year's sales figures).

Simon Cowell's probably launched half the campaigns himself to get people talking. If one of the campaigns is to get Robson and Jerome to no.1...

Already started a group on the General Discussion forum to widen the amount of views

Definitely gonna be purchasing this track.

Rage Against The Machine?

I'm not sure they're well known enough to beat the X Factor.

It's not going to happen. The majority of people who join those FB groups won't buy it anyway.

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread. Your right anyway, there's way too many people that will buy the XF song, compared to the pretty small amount that will by RATM's. It's not going to happen, I would have thought that's obvious to most people.

no problem

i would've thought so too, but apparently not.

a fair few of my facebook friends have joined this group, and the one to get journey's "don't stop believing" to number one, and the one to get bob dylan to number one, etc.

none of them will buy any of the songs, i know most of them have never even heard of RATM, they're just trying to look cool and alternative.

Why bother? you have no hope in hell of stopping the X factor making number, everyone knows that in January what will be Christmas number one.
People who start these types of campaigns are just as guilty of being sheep as those who buy the X factor winners song.
So we can in a couple of weeks look forward to the Hannah Montana song or Journey cover as number for Christmas. How sad.
