I'm presuming that the 'favourites' you are referring to are Ali and Ricky? At least in Ricky's case, while I don't dispute that the judges would favour him to reach the final over, say, Chris, they have nevertheless found much to criticize over many weeks, now... and rightly so, given Ricky so rarely seems able to give a clean performance.
But beyond that it seems entirely reasonable that they, at least the three dance professionals on the panel, should be consistently marking Ricky and Ali higher than the others,
because they are clearly the better dancers.
I'd agree if the dance-off goes to a deciding vote, then it should probably be the couple who scored highest with the public that is saved rather than Len's choice. In fact, I wouldn't be sad to see the dance-off scrapped altogether, given that it seems to have given the judges a power they didn't have in earlier series, which in turn seems to create a sour mood amongst some members of the public (or at least the forums

).
But in terms of marking, I think the judges have basically got the positions of the couples right throughout the series, even if individual scoring has been erratic and tending, as ever, towards overmarking.
