UK artists achieving long term success in the USA
Are there any? I've benn reading the Leona thread, and feel if she can't make it, with the backing of Cowell and Davies, then can anyone
![]() The only ones I can think of quickly are Coldplay. I think bands do better than solo artists out there. I'm thinking in recent years, not going back to the Beatles etc

Natasha Bedingfield seems to be massive over there. Who knows if it'll last though

I think Adele is doing quite well for herself over there too - well she was in Ugly Betty :P

As someone posted, Adele's doing well. Muse are doing pretty well in the US to now.
You can't say 'can anyone make it in the US if Leona can't'. She's not that special; maybe they just don't enjoy her music as much as Cowell expected. |

Little Boots was touring the US earlier this year as well and I think Remedy has been released on US Itunes so she might be becoming popular over there, it's hard to say tbh.

Seal is doing well there.
He is currently in the Grammy's nominations for Best Pop Vocal. |

Long term? Thanks for the responses, there are few then - not loads, and some are quite tentative. |

Radiohead are massive over here. Respected greatly in the music industry, and amongst the fans. I wouldn't say they are bigger in the US.

I'm not saying they 100% are bigger in the states. I know they're massively respected here but if you look at the history of their career. "creep" was very big in the states when it first came out. it took "The Bends" to make people in the uk realise their full potential. Kid A was also bigger in the states. I remember the uk critics saying how rubbish Kid A was and everyone thought they commited career suicide but in the states Kid A was named one of the best albums of that year. Radiohead also get as many number 1 albums over there as they do here aswell.

A fair few rock/metal acts are big in the US - Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple for example.

Adele has won Grammys, but she really hasn't had much success in terms of sales. Natasha Bedingfield is unheard of now aswell.
Leona is still doing well, I don't get why people are saying she's not..Sure she isn't doing as well as the Spirit era atm but she's only released one single.. |

Depends how recent:
Paul McCartney's still doing well, if not slightly better in the US than here. Supertramp did a lot better over there than here. Oasis did quite well in America, well a lot better than Blur anyway... |

Adele only went gold too. Sure Leona's album hasnt done very well, but some of the people being name dropped in this thread are no where near as successful as her. |

M.I.A is doing good and Adele and lets not forget Duffy. The Ting Tings and Livvi Franc are having success aswell.
