People could very well say that my taste in music was incredibly weird, as I don't just like one genre, but quite a few genres. My taste stretches right from classical to heavy metal.

I'll say that Alan has good taste in music, then.

Same here. Anything from Abba to Metallica! Tend to prefer people who write their own stuff than those who rely on others to write for them. Excellent list OP

Same here also, are there still people around who only like one genre? That would be weird to me.

I prefer people who write their own too, they seem to fit the songs better for themselves.

Oh and a previous poster, I do also like contemporary music, these are just my favourites. Examples include; Elbow, Kasabian, The White Lies and Vampire Weekend.

I could've said I like the music of Roger Whittaker...umm...actually....

As someone who is your age x3 I'd say your taste is a little bit safe or a bit to classic rock ('70's AOR).I think you definately have a ear for quality instrumentation & melodic quality.I think you definately have a basis of some real quality discoveries - keep searching.I listen to stuff that is much more contemporary than you listen to despite my age .I am listening to bands that have formed within the last 15 years.Have recently seen Dredg & am going to see Oceansize in the new year.Perhaps a bit to metal for you but there is also seems to be a progressive element in your taste - Yes, Pink Floyd - although the songs you listed are more straight forward rock/pop end of their scale. It's best to listen to complete albums to get a fuller aspect of each bands sounds, especially with '70's rock.Alot of people of your age tend to select single tracks & their singles.Alot of better stuff was not put out on singles, unless you actually do prefer that more commercial sound, which is O.K.I'm sure your taste will move on as you get older anyway.
Generally I think your taste is mature (in a good way) for someone quite young.I could recommend loads of stuff for you.It is much more fulfilling for you to discover it for yourself however.I find it quite funny in a way that alot of people prefer music that even I find a little old fasioned, although it may have a unique sound quality to you.

Pitman is a huge Big Brother fan. Probably not someone who should be lecturing others on what is high quality.

And I'd like to know what cutting edge means in music. I thought music was supposed to be primarily about melody, but I may be a little old fashioned. If so, I'm pleased I am. Music can be good without being cutting edge, and it can be crap while being cutting edge. So cutting edge is not a definition of what is good in music.

Music has only one purpose: to make you feel good.

If the music you listen to makes you feel good, f*** everybody else.

what about television, isn't that the same as music, whatever makes you feel good, you telly snob?

music can be good without being cutting edge, but at 15 you really want something you can call your own as well

At 15 everyone thinks people should all like the same thing. In 2 years your friends attitudes will just be like 'each to their own' trust me. I'm 18 now and all my mates have got their faves but everyone just seems like to a bit of everything, I like the songs I've heard from your list and overall if that's what your fave songs are... fair enough

So why make the comment about listening to "cutting edge" if you're not going to back it up?

I think you have brilliant taste! I'm 16, and like most of, if not all, of the songs on that list

You should not worry what others think. I had very different taste to most of my school friends, but I just like music. Now those friends think I have great taste. Some of your favourite are mine too.

I don't need to back it up, I am not 15, the OP is, I am giving advice to the OP, not to just listen to classic music from 30/40 years ago, when I was a kid I wasn't just listening to Frank Sinatra and Chuck Berry and not bothering with the Jam and the Clash, that would have been weird
