I thought Bruce's opening comment 'You've bought a bit of class" a bit of a slap in the face to the other judges Personally I think thats pretty lmuch all she bought...

I OPed a thread "Does Darcey know what she's letting herself in for?", where I predicted it would be "maximum 2 Saturdays" before her name would be mud.

Boy, was I over-optimistic!

I thought she was good, although I seem to be the only one. For me she made Alesha look even more irrelevant, because I felt that whatever comment she made was coming from sound knowledge so I trusted her judgement.

I just don't see the point of Darcy B. She added nothing for me at all. At least Alesha has been in the competition and knows what the celebs are going through.

As I understand it DB is a ballet dancer? What the 'F' has that got to do with Ballroom?

She'll understand what Ali is going through?

I wasn't commenting on her judging, I was commenting on her intonation - which is one I find a little irritating - and made her sound, as per the thread title, a bit dismal. I'm not quite sure why that gave you a problem that I have that opinion.

I don't mind Bruno's accent at all ( again, I'm not quite sure why you think I would - but each to their own opinion - that's what we are here for after all ).

So many people are in agreement. It must be a DS first.

I think that the people to blame are the BBC.

Whoever is in charge of SCD has obviously no idea of how the public think and what they expect from the show.

For months now we have had the hype that Darstardly Bustles will bring knowledge to the judging. Her background in ballet and dance will allow her to add a new dimension to the show.

Allowing for the fact that it was her first show, I did not hear one constructive technical comment from her or anything that could be construed as helpful to the celebrity dancer.

I agree that she was out of order in stating that Ali will be in the final, about the only bit of over exuberance she showed.

Also it is obvious that Ricky W will be top next week so as to ensure that Chris H is shown the door.

Can't have the public deciding this, can we?

All hell will break lose if she is

She probably could've sat there and got all technical with the celebrities but when you consider the level of commentary from the rest of the judges ("Give it a go, girl!") she would've seemed like she was on a different show. Craig is the most technical and she was wise to let him do the talking since he is an established personality on the show. She pretty much voted in line with him (except that one roll of the eyes she gave him). She'll probably become more assertive in the coming weeks.

I mean, what is she supposed to do? Come across like a stern ballet instructor when Bruno is done gyrating his hips and making scatty remarks? It wouldn't blend in at all.

I don't know what she's doing there but in the event she was respectful of the celebrities' efforts and though she was restrained her approval had weight that a "10" from Alesha lacks. (Nothing against Ms. Dixon, I like her.)

I will tell you what we expected from her, some decent comments and just marking.

No one deserved a 10 last night and for her to give one was a joke.

A woman of her technical background should have been more constructive but to me it felt like she had been told to Dumb it Down.

Dreadful performance 3/10

She didn't sprinkle 10s like confetti.
She didn't diss anyone.
She did just seem to echo what Craig said.
She didn't witter on and on.
She didn't actually ADD anything but she didn't b@lls it up either.

Conclusion: no point us paying her - I'd do it for nothing.

If I were to agree with your points (which I do not). She is still a waste of space and added nothing to the show. In fact it was like having a cardboard cut out sitting there.

i thought she was useless

she just copied wot the others said and if she went first was very vague

can someone tell me why they bourght in an extra judge i dont see the point

Must admit, I didn't see the point of bringing her in, especially when they didn't always have time to let all five comment.

She states in her RT interview that she has never danced ballroom before and has had to take a few lessons to learn the basics. Her ability to critique a ballroom dance is therefore going to be limited to say the least and even though she is an expert in ballet the crossover between the two is limited in the ballroom and virtually non existent in the latin.

If they wanted to up the level of critique because of the level the competitors are supposed to be at the quarter finals then they should have brought in a professional ballroom dancer or a general dancer who has a level of knowledge of ballroom as well.

She also said that she wanted to see Chris in the final as well.

Personally I think the BBC wanted a female as a fifth judge and she was the most famous dancer they could think of who wasn't already connected to the show.

No? Did you miss her telling Laila to use her back muscles to keep her shoulders down to make herself more compact? She did make a few technical comments last night and I'm sure she will make more once she settles in.

Not even hindsight is it? I think that a lot of people felt the way you did.

This is just the BBC trying to counter the Alesha problem they had created.

Bring in a posh thinking mans crumpet and hope that this satisfies the viewers.

Not.

Now I'd never have thought of her as "Crumpet". Unfortunatley for her, SCD is simply not the right vehicle, and many of us have been saying so all along. Surprised the BBC couldn't see it too.

Dreary, lacking warmth, and not remotely entertaining. What was the point?

Give her a break, it's only her first week. They should have brought her in from the beginning and given Alesha a miss altogether. I thought she showed Alesha up even more last night.

I think you will find that Alesha is quiet capable of showing herself up without the help of Darstadly Bustles.

The BBC should never have built her up to be something she isn't.

Don't forget, she is not in for the long run, just a few weeks.

Rather pointless really.

Five judges was ridiculous for a start. I'll give Darcy a bit longer before I decide she's rubbish but it wasn't a very good start.

She just gave really inane, non specific comments - I want judges to point out and articulate what is right and wrong about the technique and performance. Not just say 'that was really good' etc I want to know why.

Really if Darcy doesn't drastically improve then Karen Hardy needs to be given the forth judge role and Alesha and Darcy can both leave.

As can Bruno as far as I'm concerned. I'm tired of his hyper-active Kermit on speed impersonation...

Darstadly only has 2 more shows and the it's bye bye.

I agree on Karen Hardy. She was wonderful on ITT when she was explaining what some of the celebs were doing wrong..........Constructive criticism that we are in desperate need of rather than crude stupid remarks like Alesha saying to Laila "you really get on my wick".
