About time I made an appreciation thread I think.

What's everyone's favourite Album/tracks etc.?

Although it's pretty tough, Id probably say its a toss up between Kid A and In Rainbows.
Least favourite would be Pablo Honey, but I think that opinions pretty universal.

Lately I've revisited all the B-Sides; I think The Trickster is one of RH's best tracks.

I only have OK Computer and The Bends, with the former being my favourite. Let Down, Paranoid Android and No Surprises are my favourites off that album. I'm not quite sure where to go next, apparently Kid A is pretty experimental. Should I give it a shot or try something like In Rainbows?

Id definitley advise you to give both a go. My two favourite albums In Rainbows, I guess, is more accessible than Kid A, but they are both truly brilliant.

I know for some people they find it hard to get into Kid A, but for me, I instantly loved it. You might be the same. Tracks like Ideoteque, How To Disappear Completely, The National Anthem, Everything In It's Right Place, I would say are stand outs for me on Kid A; so maybe give those a go.

In Rainbows is a stunning album; if you liked OK and The Bends, I reckon you'd love it.

Radiohead been going nearly 25 years now... (formed 1985, first single, 1992). Just the other day I decided to download In Rainbows, Kid A and Amnesiac from amazon, for a grand total of about a tenner ( I didnt have a laptop when In Rainbows was Free, lost my old cd's of Kid A/Amnesiac) so have all the albums again *except Pablo Honey, never listened to it...might do on Spotify soon though. Great great band... loved No Surprises from the first quaver......Great live, one of the few bands I will sit and watch a whole set of when on Glasto/Reading on telly...Thom Yorke is a terrific front man, being both mental and clever

In Rainbows hasn't been out of my cd player in the car since I 1st put it in. 40 minutes to work and back every day. Excellent.

My favourite album of theirs is 'The Bends' with 'High & Dry' being my favourite track of all time.

I like the older rockier stuff. They've gone a bit weird now.

I followed their rise in the 90s and after a poor debut the next two albums, "The Bends" and "OK Computer" were magnificent. OK Computer in particular was and still is an extraordinary piece of work. I really felt they were going to be the Floyd of their generation. Sadly I lost interest with Kid A, I admire them for not doing a U2 and pushing their music to the limits but it's not easy on the ear. At least not mine anyway.

I've loved Radiohead since The Bends, they are far and away my favourite band.

I like all their albums and all their styles, but my favourite is and always will be OKC.

In Rainbows was a brilliant album though, probably my second favourite.

I also love Thom's 'The Eraser'. Thom is a genius.

"Ok Computer" for best album.

"How to Disappear Completely" for best track.

Too hard, but if pushed I would say either Let Down or Pyramid Song.

Agree with you that The Eraser is a stunning album.

Favourite could have been any of the top 4 to be fair, all are different to each other, but i like every track on In Rainbows, so that had to win.

Weird Fishes/Arpeggi - Literally one of the most relaxing songs i've ever heard. Love it.

Im the same, I love every track on In Rainbows; its such a stunning album. It does amaze me that a band on their 7th album, could release such a fantastic piece of work, that rivals their older stuff. The reason I say this is because Im a huge Muse fan as well, but their 5th album was a bit of a disappointment.

If I had to pick Id probably say Jigsaw is one of my faves from IR.

Radiohead are my favourite band.

I came to them late and in a very roundabout fashion. Amnesiac was the first album I bought (as a joke for my husband who likes jazz, soul and funk - he saw RH on TOTP and was very disparaging).

So I have a soft spot for Amnesiac - love Pyramid Song and I Might be Wrong. Dollars & Cents is quite good on the album but absolutely comes into its' own played live. That's one of the things I really like about RH - they can totally transform a track.

My favourite album sort of depends on my mood but at the moment it's between Kid A and In Rainbows.

Favourite tracks are really hard to pick too. Again depends on mood, but there's no way I can narrow it down to one.

Then there's the question of live or recorded. One of my very favourite live tracks is Talk Show Host - the recorded version isn't nearly as good in my view. Again, I probably wouldn't put The National Anthem in my list of recorded favourites but it is absolutely one of my live favourites.

There's an acoustic version of You on youtube with just Jonny and Thom which is fantastic.

Yeah, Jigsaw is a great song as well, just so many to choose from on that album.

I'm a massive Muse fan as well, used to be my favourite band before i discovered Radiohead a few years ago, but i felt the same about their latest album. It's probably their worst album i think. Bar a couple of tracks (the epic symphony's), there aren't many tracks that excite me. Don't get me wrong, compared with a lot of stuff out there it's still good, but not great. I can't physically listen to Uprising, it just sounds so mainstream, so un-Muselike, and the lyrics are just awful. Anyways, enough of my idiotic rambling, i still love Muse

Back on topic, has anyone seen any of the youtube videos some guy called AustinBrock has put up? He's put up loads of full length Radiohead concerts in HD, he's a hero, give 'em a look.

I do agree with you. I like about 5 songs on The Resistance. I still love them though, saw them at the O2 a few weeks back, and going to Wembley next year.

I will be seeing Muse in Manchester in September and saw them at the NIA a few weeks ago (brilliant gig). I too was pretty disappointed with The Resistance. Thought I was a freak as everyone else seemed to be praising it to the heavens when it first came out. My least favourite track is Guiding Light - I have to skip past it as I just can't listen to it. Exogenesis gives me hope that the rest of the album is just a blip and they'll get back on course.

Totally agree. Guiding Light is terrible, one of the worst songs they have ever done. It has its gems; MK Ultra, Unnatural Selection, and Exo are fantastic tracks, but the rest is pretty average. The gig was awesome, Im just not keen on their set list choices at the minute.

quite interesting seeing all the criticism of "the resistance" on here. I agree that it was a disappointment. I remember saying that when it first came out and not alot of people agreed with me (especially people on this board)

I remember. I think you were about the only person to agree with me. After a long parade of people saying how wonderful it was, I said that I must be listening to a different album to everyone else because I found it totally underwhelming. I think you made similar comments in the thread which made me feel better because I really felt as if I must be missing something crucial.

I got completely caught up in the hype of the new album, and all the excitement it bought, that I definitely think looking back, I praised it more than it really deserves. After a few weeks, it began to disappoint me as I was starting to get bored of it. It's such a shame, seeing as there won't be another album for a good 3/4 years.

I just dig out Absolution and OOS to keep me occupied.

And there's always Radiohead

The two greatest gigs I've ever been to in my life were Radiohead at Northampton Roadmenders in March 1995 and Muse at Cardiff Students Uni in May 1999. They both made such an impression on me.

I haven't been as keen on Radiohead's stuff in more recent years but still think they're one of the best bands of all time.

I'm not very keen on Muse's latest album (apart from about 3 songs). Very disappointing but, like others have said, it's still way better than much of the stuff around at the moment. I just hope I enjoy their next album more. As for all their other albums - masterpieces, the lot of them, imo!
