Classy Anton!
arlene's boy
06-12-2009
Yes, there'll be those who will accuse me of bias as I've been known as a supporter of his, but....! I thought his performance tonight was sheer class, in the face of a partner who had clearly lost confidence and, because of a memory lapse, failed to dance to her potential. And their exit was perhaps the most dignified of the whole series, along with Ricky Groves's. It's a shame that Bruce and Tess had to try to ruin it with their usual "this is such a disaster, you must be feeling terrible" routine. From both Laila and especially Anton a rare moment of taste and grace in an otherwise consistently tacky and tawdry exhibition from the BBC. Bruce's frankly vulgar intrusion on Bette Midler's appearance will rank as one of TV's most embarrassing moments. Perhaps another reason why the beleaguered programme execs can't get decent guests if they think they'll be subjected to this rubbish. But enough moaning! Well done to Laila and Anton for a fine display.

I agree, they were both very dignified, and I also cringed at Bruce before Bette's performance. No one wanted to see that !

I thought they were both fantastic and gracious and their DO performance was a much better one to be remembered by than the Salsa.

Sad to see them go but I guess the time had come but I'll miss them.

Agreed - I wish he'd just leave the blasted jacket off and do the show in his shirt sleeves if it bothers him that much

I loved the way Laila and Anton were upbeat about the whole thing, even having a laugh and a joke instead of getting maudlin' and they went out on a high with that second performance of the AS.

Well Done!

I agree.
This is when I like Anton - his humour if often sub-Bruce but he knows how to lose with grace. I know that sounds like a swipe but it's not - the art of being gentlemanly is not often seen on TV any more, and he can do it.

Agreed. He's a total professional. Also nice to he and Erin shining in the pro ballroom.

I thought they dealt with the whole situation with grace and humour, and I am sorry to see them go,whilst accepting it was the right result.
I have enjoyed watching their relationship build after a very shakey start if we are to believe all the press reports, and hope they are both happy with their achievements.

A rare opportunity to agree with you Arlene's boy so I'm taking it.

Anton has really stepped up to the mark in the last few weeks and done a really good job in both the ballroom and the latin, and his humour has been spot on over the last few weeks.

I've enjoyed their partnership but it might've been more dignified if they'd learned the dances.

I honestly love Laila but she was a very lazy participant. She was even less than convincing in her VT when she said, "I am desperate to get to the final." Erm, sure you are, Laila. Must be why you've been working so hard on your core strength these past four months.

She was gorgeous to look at and I enjoyed the drama but the chasm between their scores and the Top 3 last night was embarrassing. When you think of the progress a couple like James Jordan and Zoe Lucker would've made by that time in the competition, it was hard to feel any sympathy for Laila and Anton - they should've been out weeks ago.

I would've preferred to see Natalie and Vincent again last night.

It was a very dignified exit.

I am sad to see them go but i think it was the right result, especially after that Salsa.

I agree and thought he was really nice to give Ricky words of support at the end.

I got the feeling that they knew even before the show started that they were gonners and so were prepared and just decided to go out and have a good time.

It was nice to see Anton back on form again though and the pair of them were lots of fun last night.

The best moment of the night was Anton saying to Tess "It might be fun for you love, it's a career for me!"

Yes that was funny and the other pros behind him obviously thought so too

I think Anton does his best with partners he gets, but sees the programme for what it is.
It isn't the end of the world if you go out, it's only a bit of competitive fun.

Let's not make a drama out of a bit of trivia.
