I wonder if Derek did all the choreography for that? Rubbish song, but I suppose the dancing wasn't bad. I can't believe they brought him over from the USA especially for that! And he didn't even get to appear on ITT.
Definitely a missed opportunity.

If he is on SCD it will change everything. First of all they make more than twice as much on DWTS, plus a monthly stipend to cover living quarters. Secondly they get paid for the month prior to the show to practice with the star.

The pros on Strictly get 0 for living, and nothing for the 4-5 weeks of pre show training with the star

So, the BBC will have to match what Derek gets for all the other pros on strictly, or there will be a revolt. Derek will never do the show for the slave wages the pros get on Strictly and the BBC is too cheap to match the US wages and benefits.

So I wouldn't expect Derek to go to a second rate outfit when he is going first class at the present time in the US.
24 million viewers watch each show in the US for a total of 48 million viewers a week. Why would he step down to a show that is seen by only 10 million a week. Where would you want to promote your new CD.

I don't think Derek, Marky or Julianne even bothered to try out for strictly, but jumped at the chance to do DWTS.
In fact they did the tour before even doing the show.
Brian did 3 tours, and Kristina did two in the US before doing Strictly.

Only Derek and Julianne did the first tour, and only Derek and Julianne were asked to be on the show the next season. Julianne accepted and Derek turned it down to return to London. He said he didn't want to leave his band. He did appear one week as a guest pro to help Julianne with Apolo and to do a pro dance. They obviously asked him again for the next season and asked Mark as well which is probably why he ended up doing it.

Wonder why he comes over here at all then if all the money, kudos and PR is in the US? There has to be some benefit in it for him...speculate to accumulate, so to speak?

He wants a career in the music and Cheryl Cole knows a lot of people in the music industry. I remember he said something similar about Lil Kim. Maybe Derek will also be in the music video which won't do him any harm. But I wish he'd stick to dancing, not keen on his music.

Loved the dance he did for this show, especially his solo bit at the start. Brilliant choreography mixing tango, paso and giving it a modern feel.

I was hoping after doing Dance X he'd do one series of Strictly. Ironically I noticed one of the backing dancers for the first song was in the winning group from Dance X. That didn't last
Agree with what's already been said there's no way he'd turn down DWTS to do Strictly.

Love that first pic, it reminds me of his tango with Jennie

Derek's band is okay, but nothing special, whereas his dancing and choreography is outstanding. I hope he keeps dancing one way other another.

Wow! Are you sure they don't pay the British pro's for the weeks of training they do before the show begins? That's practically criminal, if you ask me. They're doing all that work for NO pay ?

And I bet most of the 20 or so million people in America who watch the performance show are the same people who watch the results show, so it might be 40+ million "viewings" but not 40 million people. Also, while about 7% of Americans watch DwtS, the percentage of Brits who watch SCD is 17%.

I also think that Mark and Derek like London better than LA. I used to read a lot of their interviews , and they once said the night-life in LA was a real drag with everything closing up pretty early, compared to London where you can literally party all night and day.

Mark and Derek composed a song on their first CD called "Love My London" and I really got the idea it was their favorite place to be and they missed it when they were not there.

Now money, exposure, cd sales, gigs - I get it - it's probably better in the US, but if either one of them relocated to London, even permanently, I wouldn't be a bit surprised, just following their comments and such. Derek starred in Footloose in the West End and won best newcomer I believe, and he said he loved the stage.

They grew up in London, went to stage school there (Conti whatever), and consider it their real home, imo. Even Derek, who lived there from age 12 to age 22 -- and Mark from toddlerhood to 21 and Mark's mum's from Liverpool originally and London from adulthood on.

If I were either one of them, I'd pick London over LA in a New York minute, so to speak

Come to think of it, I'd pick New York over LA - or most anywhere over LA - but then, LA may be the best location for money and pop-music success, I can't argue that. (They better improve their music act, if you ask me, though, when they performed on a DwtS results show, I thought they were crap.)

Sometimes it is easy to be successful with a smaller audience in terms of music if you look at some acts that like P!nk who was more successful in the UK before the USA (their original music was better than 'move' - the song they performed on DWTS)

also if the rumours are true then they could do both strictly and dtws.

I notice in all the pictures of Cheryl Cole in LA this week, Derek is walking two paces behind. I hope it's because he's doing some more choreography for her and not anything else.

I read this article and it actually looks like they are just friends. Professionally working together and nothing more and the media is making a big deal out of it. The media likes to spin the showmances. I hate the way they lure you in with the headline and then when you read it is another matter. I am wondering if the US press will pick up on it and start trying to get photos of them together.

He spends quite a bit of time over here doesn't he? May just have been a coincidence but I wonder if he's in the frame for a stint as an SCD pro?
I think it would be a significant step down in pay (and while it would gain him new fans, the relative number of them would be a lot smaller for the investment in time he'd have to put in).
