Yours is the only post I've read that said this - which ones and what made you think it was the pro and not the celeb that was out of time?
My opinion: I don't think Anton's style is wrong - just different. It would be ludicrous for him to be trendy - as much as it would be for him to appear without a shirt and tie on or Ola in twin set and pearls.

Anton is Anton

I really don't think he should. He's funny but he's just not a good enough dancer.

Bendymixer do you actually teach ballroom and latin? Your school advertises cheerleading and freestyle(disco to the unsophisticated among us) does it not?

As someone who occasionally dances in medal competitions with pupils, I can say from experience that if a pupil goes wrong in routine and off time it is quite hard to get them back on time and into routine. Unlike the 90 second fixed format on SCD you can stop them and start again: which is the only guaranteed way to sort them out.

If you look with unbiased eyes at the salsa performance you can see numerous occasions where Anton is working really hard to get Lailla back on time and into the performance. Unfortunately he wasn't able to salvage the performance, just like in the jive disaster.

I'll also say that until the samba from Ali this weekend Laila was the only female celebrity that had any of the genuine samba action in her dancing. Taught by Anton.

And if Anton did not have an ongoing underlying problem with regard to how he views Asians and/or Muslims then it would never have occured to him to make such comments in the first place. It just wouldn't have occcured to anyone that it was an OK thing to say if they did not have the underlying attitude in the first place.”

So when I say that someone needs to see a therapist about deep personal issues instead of dragging an entertainment forum down with their jibes, you will realise that is my (not so) underlying attitude instead of a one off comment?

I'll add an ageist comment of yours here:

Do the same rules apply?

I absolutely agree with this.
When that row broke out (10 weeks ago or thereabouts ) I posted about it being a 'geographical' thing.
In our neck of the woods - perhaps we were too far removed from any of the troubles? - there was no issue with the referenced word and there still isn't to this day.
I'm only refraining from using the word because I know there are posters who will be offended and they have posted such - it's still in everyday use in our locality re the shops etc.

A more basic rejection of the comparison is:

suffix -ism = the practice of
suffix -phile = one who has an attraction or affinity to but more commonly an obsession with.

I agree - it was a particularly distasteful comparison to make.

I find Anton's Latin very uninspiring. In fact, I think he and Ali perform Latin almost the same - without passion and almost bland.
While Ali is new to dance though, Anton is a professional and, as such, should put more effort into it.
He should either master it or stay out of the next series - and definitely NOT take over Bruce's role, as I find him irritating. Bruce should be replaced for the next series IMHO.

He had 5 years to arrange this but didn't do it or is incapable of learning as there has been no improvement. I don't think he was incapable of learning as if you can learn one form of dance you should be able to understand others. I think he is unprofessional in not even trying to become a better dancer and teacher of latin.
