How can I cure red dots on 42 inch LG plasma TV LG42PC1d?
How can I cure red dots on 42 inch LG plasma TV LG42PC1d?
The TV is approx 3 years old, out of warranty and no service plan. About 9 months ago I noticed a serious deterioration in picture quality caused by masses of red dots. I found an article on the internet that explained why the problem occurred and showed how to solve it by adjusting the blue voltage screw on one of the boards inside the set. It really was an idiot`s guide (just right for me) and even had pictures! The problem has re-surfaced worse than ever and now I can’t locate the original article so I called an engineer out to have a look. He took the back off and without testing anything declared that he was 60% sure it was the power supply board. He said that he could fix / repair (very vague on this when challenged – was he going to get a new board or fix the old one?) the board for £100 but if that didn’t solve the problem it was another board causing the problem and to replace that would then cost an additional £200. The guy struck me as a bit of a cowboy so I paid him £10 for fuel and sent him away. Meanwhile I’ve still got a defective TV ![]() So here are my questions: 1. Can anyone give me a link to the repair article I mention above? 2. Is replacing the power supply board a relatively easy DIY job or do I need to be a paid up member of some dark arts organisation? 3. If it is easy to replace the power supply board where can I buy one? I’ll be grateful for any help. Peter |

its just how it is. no ones willing to pay for a real engineer to fix such a thing. would rapidly approach cost of replacement for real expertise.
good luck doing it yourself, thats basically the only way to save money |

Apparently it's down to the Plasma panel 'wearing' - last I heard LG were reworking one of the PCB's to cure the problem.
As this is clearly a 'design fault', you should be covered under the 6 year SOGA. |
