Recording Radio - file formats

The PVR will record a radio programme, but the resulting file format looks to be the same as that of video , (.ts etc) . This in contrast to the file format supported for 'music' files (mp3)

I have 2 questions:-

a) what is the file size (Mbytes per minute, or data rate ) ? is it the same as a music file?

b) Is there any way of converting a radio recording to a 'mp3 music format ?

Radio 1 192 kbps

Yes VLC player amongst others will convert to .wav or .mp3.

CD format audio takes up approximately 10MB per minute of stereo audio.

A compressed format at 128kb/s occupies approximately 1MB per minute of stereo audio.

And it matters not whether the audio is in MP2, MP3 AAC or any other format. If the bitrate is the same the file size will be the same.Other bitrates will be in proportion. Obviously the higher the bitrate the more disk space required.

Just demux the ts file - you'll get a .mp2 file that many mp3 players will play (though you'll have to rename it to .mp3 for many of them to see it at all).
