Inspired by the duet rumours on the X Factor thread, I've been thinking abiout songs that sound like two (or more!) songs squashed together. Sometimes they're duets. Sometimes they sound like two halves of two songs with an end that sounds nothing like the beginning. Sometimes they have a completely random bit in the middle before going back to the beginning song.

So far on my list I have:

Mr Blue Sky - ELO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98P-gu_vMRc

Band On The Run - Wings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBX2dySWGew

The Chain - Fleetwood Mac http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T0Dq_SXaWc

Say Say Say - Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLEhh_XpJ-0

A Day In The Life - The Beatles (thank you Heavenly!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiFYOn1AFms

Any others?

Funny you should mention this... there was a band I was trying out last night. Lupo Label. I wasn't sure what they were trying to do, but I suspect the closest answer would be 'everything'.

Teehee.

That was at least five different songs! There may have been more, I couldn't get through it all!

The one that immediately sprung to mind was Robbie Williams - Bodies. It sounds like 2 or 3 songs roughly welded together. It doesn't really have the desired effect, I feel...

Try Plus-Tech Squeeze Box, every genre and style all wrapped up in 3 minute hits:

There most famous track - Early Riser on Adam & Joe Go Tokyo

More regular, surely Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is a definite mash up.

Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear The Reaper.

They sliced a song in half, and put a cockrock prog esque solo that doesn't seem to fit in the middle of it, then squished it back together

Song Sandwich?

Neither could I at first. But after watching a live video where they randomly started line dancing I think I may have found a guilty pleasure. Guilty because it's not the sort of rock I usually like, and to be honest it's only slightly better when it's them because they mix it up with some other stuff... but they're creative and great fun and I can't help but like them for that.

I suppose that's OK though. A lot of old-school punk fans seem to like them, and it's probably because they were one of those bands who're there to entertain and arse around rather than be genii.

Sorry. Just needed to confess, and as I am an atheist the Vicar wasn't an option, so you got it. Won't happen again. I promise.

In the comments people were saying that that was a robot on vox? Surely it's not! If it is it's dead realistic...

"Hard To Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago. The main part of the song is slowish and melodic and romantic etc., but the last minute or so is some awful soft rock that's a completely different tune and tempo. It's bizarre.

Girls Aloud-Sexy!No No No. I think a 3 minute version of the intro would be an excellent track on its own!

Thats the first one I thought of too! The start sounds like it should be a completely different song!

A lot of Girls Aloud songs sound like that. The first one that came to mind (apart from the ones already mentioned) was Close To Love. Also Crocodile Tears and Watch Me Go.

I guess Mini Viva's Left My Heart In Tokyo might count as well. And Sugababe's Ace Reject (the full length version not the radio edit).

All the ones I've mentioned are Xenomania-produced tracks interestingly.
