whats the strangest or maybe unexpected cover you've ever heard?
Maybe even not strange but just brilliant.

You know like you stumbled on Kylie covering an AC/DC track or something.

The reason I'm asking is that sometimes these covers can turn out to be really cool when you are used to a song be done the original way and would like to find something out there I may be missing.

for starters I have this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SCpmv37_g4 which is Goodnight nurse singing "milkshake"

Can't find a decent sounding video on Youtube, but I was taken aback by Tori Amos' version of Slayer's Raining Blood.

That's so strange. As soon as I saw the title for this thread, that's the song that came to mind. Any of her covers really. Try '97 Bonnie & Clyde or Famous Blue Raincoat.

Here are three bizarre covers:

1. Kylie's "I Should Be So Lucky" -- covered by Frank Sidebottom
2. Rolf Harris' "Sun Arise" -- covered by Alice Cooper
3. Beatles "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" -- covered by William Shatner

Followed by six excellent covers:

1. Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place" and Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage" -- merged into a single cover by Robert Glasper.
2. Rod Stewart's "I'm Losing You" -- covered by Richie Kotzen
3. Beatles side 2 of Abbey Road -- merged into an awesome live medley by Transatlantic.
4. The Guess Who's "American Woman" -- covered by The Butthole Surfers.
5. Pat Metheny's "Bright Size Life" -- covered by Dave Fiuczynski
6. Sweet's "Fox On The Run" -- covered by Ace Frehley

su pollard doing 'back in the USSR' - unfortunately there's no video of it on youtube, but it was on bbc4's "...sings the beatles" programme which was recently repeated.

see also: akon's 'sexy bitch' covered by paloma faith, beyonce's 'if i were a boy' by jamie t, and beyonce's 'single ladies' covered by marmaduke duke.

Good lord, I'd forgotten that. It was jaw-droppingly awful. I'd love to see it again.

I actually think Florence and the Machines You got the love is a lot better than most covers i've heard in a long time.

Snow Patrol's cover of Beyonce's 'Crazy in Love' is interesting.

Also Lemar's cover of The Darkness' 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' on one of his albums seemed a strange thing to do at the time.

No idea who this guy is but I like this 'acoustic' Numan cover a lot. It's not particularly strange...but it is very different to the original whilst sounding like it could have been performed by Numan's band.

This is a country, honky tonk version of Pink Floyds complete album, The Wall. Very strange.

Admittedly, the original is weird but, at least, not terrible.

Yes, and indeed her covers of Smells Like Teen Spirit and The Police's 'Wrapped Around Your Finger'

Quite fond of The Automatics cover of Gold Digger

Otherwise I really Like the Revolting Cocks version of 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?'... like some sort of dirty fuzzy electro!

You thought Shatner's Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds was bad:

but I can beat that:

Doesn't necessairily count as strange but if you remember the Buzzcocks check out Sadie Jemmett's acoustic version of 'Ever Fallen In Love' for a different take on the song.

I'd go for Therion's cover of ABBA's Summer Night City. It takes the song in a very weird and slightly unsettling direction imo. The video only adds to the disturbing feel to it.........fantastic version though.......

The Greenskeepers do a great unexpected version too. Although the track is called Bloodclots, the lyrics are from Raining Blood .

Horrible cover. The original is so beautiful, too... (as is Slowdive's cover on their 1993 album 'Souvlaki').
