but to be honest, I'd love a Christmas number 1 with a few sleighbells and kiddies choirs
I'll 2nd that, and hopefully next year's mini-crusade will pick something suitable, but this year the only option on the table is RATM and I'm looking forward to giving it an airing here come Christmas day (between carols, obviously!).

The Jeff Buckley group had a large number of members last year, but it didn't translate into sales. With an estimated 20 million watching this years x-factor final there is no chance of anyone else geting the x-mas number 1.
Which I feel is ridiculous.

The Crap Factor has ruined Saturday Night television, and has now ruined the Christmas number one. What happened to traditional songs winning Christmas number ones rather than a bunch of sadacts who can't think about sending demo CD's to record companies instead of waiting to milk a TV appearance. Did I see somewhere that one of this years finallists (Don't know the name, I don't watch crap TV) was on Deal or No Deal recently?

The sooner CrapFactor goes the same way as Big Brother the better in my opinion. Bring back topical Christmas number ones, and bring back DECENT saturday night television.

Now, xfactorrage aside. Thisjust proves how ignorant people are, like the OP said the lyrics are clean until the end...also, I'd hardly say its a sweary anthem for naughty schoolkids, do you know what it's actually about??? Regardless of your opinion on the campaign, do your research before spewing tripe at the computer screen!
Having bought their album when it came out and having been to see them a number of times, I'm aware of their song and what they're about, but thanks for assuming I'd only heard the last 20 seconds for the first time this week.

By 'sweary anthem for schoolkids' I will again reiterate that were it not for the breakdown at the end and the easily adapted protest screams, this song would not be used for this campaign. After all, I'm sure Simon Cowell isn't actually a white supremacist.

In a similar fashion to kids wearing Nirvana hoodies after only hearing Teen Spirit, kids took to this song as a generic rebel anthem because it swears angrily at the end. Sweary anthem for schoolkids.

I didn't say that's what they intended it to be, in much the same way that Babybird didn't write 'You're Gorgeous' and expect it to be sung as a love song, and 'Happy Birthday' by Stevie Wonder wasn't really meant to be played at my uncle's 60th.

Rage Against The Machine are at no fault here. They recorded a song people like, that's it.

Midweeks
01 RATM 83,000
02 JOE 77,000

However Joe has the physical released wednesday, so dont get to excited...still, its a LOT closer this year than any previous x factor winners song.

I liked Joe and glad he won, but don't like The Climb. RATM i don't like that song, and as people bang on about Christmas No.1 so much, an actually Christmas song would have been better than the garbage on offer.

The christmas number 1 stopped ages ago, well before the X Factor. Pop Idols the rivals back 2002 you can add as a sixth reality TV xmas number produced this decade.

OK, really, I have never viewed decent Saturday night television, and if this was before my time, then naff was being broadcast on Saturday nights long before XF came along.

Its more of a statement to Cowell than it is about the song.

yes it does, they buy it at 40p but sell it at 29p,the only rule that The Official Charts Company have is that the song must be bought by resellers at 40p but they can sell it for whatever they like

I don't think a group with less than 200 members is going to make as big of an impact as the RATM group with almost 800,000 members.
