It's also a bad choice of song for X-Mas - X-Mas songs should be happier than this.
I've always preferred Christmas songs that cast some doubt upon the idea of Christmas - Lennon's Happy Xmas, Do They Know It's Christmas, Fairytale of New York, even something like Blue Christmas.

Besides, actual Christmas Number 1s are frequently nothing to do with Christmas at all - such as virtually every X Factor song ever with the possible exception the Burke last year; and Hallelujah is such an overwritten dirge that it hardly corresponds to festive happiness.

It must be quite hard on Joe though...being the only winner to possibly not make the xmas no1. (Well apart from Steve if you count that one)

I actually wanted Joe to win but im sure the majourity of people want him to do well, its just the point of actually having the xmas no1 that people have a problem with i reckon.

I don't get the comments about how Killing In The Name Of is inappropriate for Christmas due to its nature and lyrical content when arguably the most popular Christmas song ever contains the words 'arse', 'slut' and 'faggot'.

A little like last year, once this year's X Factor got to the last eight or so, and it became readily apparent that there was nobody as talented as Leona Lewis, I didn't bother watching any more.

And he's singing an utterly mediocre Miley Cyrus song that is only really notable for being used as ongoing Youtube target in Miley death hoaxes, haha.

Mad World was a weird choice for Christmas no.1. Who wants to be haunted when filling up with mince pies?

Why would you buy a song to spite someone else?
Im not... Ive liked it since I was a kid going Moshing to it. Just so happens this is a cause for a song I like and I have a quid in my Bank account.

Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello is not taking a single penny in royalties from Killing In The Name Of:

If thats not more reason to buy it, I dont know what is.

Buy Joes CD/MP3, and Cowell gets the proceeds, with possibly royalties to Miley Cyrus.

Buy RatM MP3, and proceeds go to Youth Music.

so presumably, using that logic, you bought TXF charity single, and boycotting the entire back catalogue of RATM that they do receive proceeds from?

Just come here now and have been reading all the threads and comments on the RATM vs X-Factor situation.

I love some of stuff people on the X-Factor side are coming out with I was only going to buy KITN once just to show my support for the cause and be sensible but my older sister bought The Climb in Asda today so I've downloaded it 4 more times to drown her out.

Thing is KITN is genuinely much more my kind of thing musically so it's not a waste.

It is hilarious isn't it?

The rise of the XFactor (and other such pish) corresponds directly with the advent of itunes. You see, the majority of these people don't ever leave their houses.

yes, that'll be it - nothing like a ridiculous sweeping generalisation to win an argument.

all i've really said, which i assume you include as pish, is that...

1. TXF has given Joe a huge boost in sales of his single, but that people are still probably buying it because they do actually like it.

2. The Facebook campaign has given a huge boost to sales of the RATM track, and that many people are buying it (ironically from this iTunes that people who never leave their home use) with the sole intention of stopping TXF single from getting to number one.

and

3. that pretty much any other single would not have the benefit of either TXF, or a co-ordinated viral campaign to prevent TXF from being number 1.

so which of those three statements are you actually disagreeing with?

it might not have been a waste the first time, but i'd say the second, third and fourth times probably were.

Multiple downloading could make RATM disqualified for the charts. According to OFC, a campaign which cause is to disrupt the charts is illegal and one of the attributing factors is multiple buying (i.e. downloads to make another single drop).

the rules state that no more than 3 copies per vendor is allowed so if hes downloaded them from 2 places twice he hasnt broke any rules

I don't think it really needs Facebook now to be honest; anyone with a passing interest is likely to be aware of the campaign, and it's being reported far more widely than surely anyone had envisaged.

My favourite Christmas song - unfortunately it's a cover as I can't find the real Tom Waits & Peter Murphy (Bauhaus) version on youtube, but it's a good cover!

They ought to get out more.
A couple of nights at the Camden Underworld would sort out the men from the boys!

People buying RATM just to get at Cowell are being just as manipulative as he is. Unfortunately this might affect a perfectly good and genuine talent in Joe McElderry. He is only 18 for goodness sake. Give him a break!

Just off to download The Climb again!

NO! By downloading it "again" you're just as bad as the RATM brigade!
Joe's career wont be over if he sells 200,000 copies whether he gets to number one or not.

exactly - and another irony here is that Joe will probably sell more because of all this, so Cowell will be making more £££.
