I think anyone who cares who's at no.1 is a bit of a Muppet. Oh well.

I am assuming defeat at this time. The mindless teeny bopper army of sheep and 'mums' will buy their latest pointless karaoke tripe as per usual.

But as I personally face settling for No.2. AT LEAST we are at last putting up a challange to them at last and that's main point for the first time in 5 years its not a straight done & dusted event and on that stance we have already won.

Once from itunes
once from 7digital
once from play
once from HMV (it counts, I've checked)
twice from Amazon (one radio edit, one album version - that still counts as 2 sales)

Did 3 from this computer, 3 from another
5 times that is sad

There's been quite a lot of controversy about this, so just thought I'd clear this up in case anyone's interested....

I HAVE JUST PHONED AMAZON ON THIS NUMBER: 0800 496 1081 AND CONFIRMED THAT THE 29P SALES DO COUNT TOWARDS THE CHARTS.

So if anyone wants to support the cause, it only costs 29p from Amazon, here...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...pf_rd_i=468294

Personally, I say BUY RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE.

DO IT EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, DO IT FOR REAL MUSIC, DO IT IN SUPPORT OF ALL THAT IS AUTHENTIC AND GENUINE, DO IT 'CAUSE IT'LL BE A LAUGH, IT'LL BE DIFFERENT, AND IT'LL BE MEMORABLE. DO IT TO PROVE THAT IT CAN BE DONE.

Come on, people, get involved :O)

That wouldn't be a strike for 'real' music though. Buy something you like and ignore the top 10 altogether if you're a purist.

F*** you, I won't do what you tell me!

Besides, how can the RATM campaign be "authentic" and "genuine" when it is trying to rig the charts?

How's it trying to rig the charts exactly?

What's the difference between this campaign to get people to buy a song and every other campaign, advertising or otherwise, to get people to buy a song.

End of the day, everyone has free will to buy a track or not.

It doesn't look good at the mo. RATM is just 7,000(or thereabouts) sales in front of the X Faxtor song. And the X Factor song has the advantage of the physical CD singles releases, whereas RATM doesn't. And with loads of people hitting the shops tomorrow.

I'll be amazed if the X Factor song is NOT #1 this Christmas.

I think the only chance is now is if the many people who have allready brought the RATM download, buys another copy or two, or three. Otherwise it looks fairly certain that yet again this year, X Factor will have the Christmas number one.

The fact that the X-Factor has been legitimately challenged and the no.1 race is actually a news item again is surely enough of a victory regardless of who actually hits top spot in the end.

Plus of course the obvious benefits to Shelter and the youth music charity.

Even if Elderberry is number one this weekend, the campaign has already done it's job, and in effect, won.

It's attracted national media attention, been acknowledged by TXF themselves and voiced the public annoyance with the Christmas charts being annexed by a TV game show.

and most importantly, raised money for charity.

There is more to it than "insecurity", and I think you'll find that many RATM fans and campaigners have a very eclectic taste in music, listen to a wide variety of bands, and don't give a sh** if other people like it or not.

This is not about trying to make other people like RATM or RATM's music. This is not about getting upset that lots of people LIKE Joe McElderry. If people like Joe McElderry then so what? Let them like him, it's a free country, people have free choice to like what they like.

There are many many reasons why this campaign is a GREAT idea, SOME of which are: IT WOULD BE A LAUGH, it would be funny for "F*** YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME" to be plastered all over the radio for Christmas, and future Christmas albums etc instead of the usual manufactured bullsh**, it makes a statement to people in the UK and elsewhere in the world that consumer demand can make a difference, it makes a statement about people power, it highlights the fact that not everyone likes manufactured karaoke products like Joe McElderry (but everyone has the right and choice to like that sort of thing if they like) and that thousands and thousands of people all over the UK believe in REAL music, lyrics, and vocals that are motivated out of passion, emotion, and inspiration and not motivated by a desire to become famous, rich, or popular.

If you don't care about the campaign then why speak out against it? Your cynicism is negative and destructive towards a cause that is fundamentally positive.

Personally, in general, I don't watch TV, I don't watch X-Factor, and I don't pay any attention to the charts. To me, in general, the charts are fairly meaningless and do more to highlight the effectiveness of good (and well-funded) marketing than to represent the country's most popular artists. But on this occasion I feel it's important to take part in this campaign as it's an opportunity to make a bold, loud, and positive statement.

I bought the 79p version - then decided to buy the 29p version afterwards based on your text....I clicked on it and went to checkout it then said

Items: £0.29
Postage & Packing: £0.00
Total: £0.29
Promotion Applied: -£0.21

Order Total: £0.08

Is this a (legal) dirty trick from Cowell??? Will this make it not count

Not sure what Cowell is meant to have done to Amazon exactly, but no. Amazon bought the track at the minimum price to make it eligible, so however much it is below that price is the loss they're making to increase traffic, peripheral sales and sign-ups for their site.

What price you buy it at is irrelevant, providing that you buy it from Amazon, itunes, Play.com etc.

FYI: You can buy up to 2 copies without risk of your purchases being invalidated with regards to the charts.

An interesting video (with RATM) and radio interview (with Tom Morello) from RATM regarding the campaign for those of you who are interested...

SO Will it count towards the chart - was my question.

Yes. The minimum chart-eligible price has already been paid by Amazon.

The Sun's headline did make me laugh today.

It was in regards to Mr Cowell and Mrs Coles' claims that were all being mean wanting proper music to be number 1, and not this atrocity of a song from X Factor.

basically it was:

"Irritable Cowell Syndrome & Cole Sore".

Childish but laugh I did.
