If that closing segment wasn't in it, there's no way the song would be chosen. Look at the slogans for the campaign (f*ck you I won't buy what you sell me), they're all centred around the idea of it being a 'protest'.
Silver Bells by Dean Martin; now that would be a lovely no.1.
Its more about a protest than the song, we dont care if its the Muppets or Rage, its just about people power, plus £3,000 is going to Shelter and the homeless, and its not an anti label protest we dont care if Rage are on Epic/Sony.

As for the campaign, nope, I'm not going to buy it. Why? I already own it, I bought it the first time around.
I don't really care who is number one this Xmas. The charts have been dead for years now, it's not about talent, it's about who has the best hype machine. A tub of lard could win X Factor and it would still get number one, the top ten are usually all owned by the same handful of record labels (or subsidiaries of) anyway.
If RATM get number one, I can listen to their back catalogue and still enjoy them.
If they get number two, I can listen to their back catalogue and still enjoy them
If they fail to chart, I can listen to their back catalogue and still enjoy them
So what difference does it make?
This will never get number one, x factor final is going to get loads of viewers (18m???) compared to a few thousand people buying some protest song! I doubt it will even chart tbh

The number of viewers that actually buy whatever crap ends up winning The X Factor will be nowhere near 18 million. It never is, and with this years contestants being a poor bunch, at best, i actually think that something might beat it this year. I'm hoping for the Muppets personally
It will probably end up getting to #26 or thereabouts. These kind of campaigns never work - I bet you anything that only a tiny percentage of the people in the Facebook group will actually buy the song.

I might buy it, haven't decided yet. I uphold that if you simply want The X Factor to be beaten, you might as well support whichever campaign is going strong (just like voting Labour to prevent a Conservative government...).

I fully agree with kutox that the more worked up you get, the more 'coveted' the Christmas number 1 is perceived to be, and thereby people are under the impression that the XF has achieved something by obtaining it.
I don't personally give a shit that the money goes to the same company either (or whatever the case is). You chuck money away on singles and you're basically setting up a direct debit to record companies anyway. What matters is the quality of the music, really.

Saturdays ratings were up, Sundays were down. They are massively higher than they were this time last year. It won't be 20 million (and that number has only ever been batted around as a peak figure anyway) but it will be far more than last year.
And the dreadful charity single did go to #1 with the second best one week sales of the year (behind Cheryl Cole).

I cant see it being anywhere near that amount to be honest (even at a peak). I've just looked it up and the highest ratings that the show has ever got came last month while the awful Jedward were still in it when it got 14.4 million, it has actually dropped since then (both Saturday and Sunday shows), so 18-20 million is definitely a pipe dream.
It does really put it in perspective though when you see that in America shows like House are getting around 13 million viewers for the whole of the US, while a tiny country like us has over 14 million people glued to the screen watching a bunch of karaoke singers.
Anyway, it seems like i'm turning this thread into a TV ratings thread, sorry about that! lol. I guess it is kind of relevant.

I can assure you as a friend of Jon Morter who is the genius behind this (and the man behind the campaign that got Jeff Buckley to no.2 last xmas) he has absolutely nothing to do with Sony! and for that matter no one in the group gives a toss about Sony or conformity. We all just hate this xfactor crap year after year and want to see some people power supporting real music!
Actually Jon and his wife Tracy chose this song because they just wanted an xmas song with the word 'F*ck' in it!

To be fair, the campaign to get people to buy the Jeff Buckley version of 'Hallelujah' last year got that song to number 2 - And the Rage Against The Machione group has approx. 3 times as many members as the Jeff Buckley group did. Plus, they are a more popular act.

Well people make there own interpretation of the song and most fans just like the "up yours" feel about the song. And 550,000 members all making a stand against Xfactor is absolute people power! No one really cares how Cowell feels about it. People just want to see that they don't have to just sit there and complain when another talentless xfactor winner gets a no.1 hit! They can have a voice by joining the campaign and standing up for real music!

My main problem with the X Factor is that it has ruined the Christmas Number 1, long gone are the days when we got a Christmassy sounding song at number 1. Instead we get crappy wannabe's singing a rehash of someone else's non-christmas themed song. Hmmm, original!

We're also raising money for Shelter, we are now about £5,000 and our target is 10K, so no its not just about getting one over on Simon Bowel.
