Born and Bread - Michael French

22-03-2004
I'm a big fan of Michael French (aka Simon on EE). On episode last night he was supposed to move to New Zealand with a job offer. An then on the clips for next week's episode there is no showing of Michael at all just clips of the rest of the cast including James Bolam (his dad on the series).

So does anyone knows if Michael French has left the series ( he did this on Holby CIty where after 2 series he left as he's always on the lookout for new challenges)????

SPOILER COMING UP for next Sunday 28th March

Spoiler
Tom and Arthur agree to suspend their hostilities to treat Eddie's illness. And shockwaves ripple through Ormston when everyone learns that one of the doctors is leaving the village.

PS: Michael French was David in EE. And he is also the most unbelievable character in Born & Bred, just doesn't seem to fit in.

Thanks for that Katie. And stand corrected on his EE character. I just like Michael French in whatever he's in but I can understand if others don't. I guess we just have to see next week if Michael is really leaving the series for good. sigh!

I watch it mainly for the good old fashioned values, but also the excellent acting by James Bolam (Arthur), Maggie Steed (Phyllis) and the characters of Mr Boyton and the Reverend.

It's a bit like Heartbeat but with less action and more scalpels! (altho the thread title makes it sound like it's set in a a bakery, lol). My excuse to my partner for watching it is usually 'you left the telly on that channel' too!

Wasn't Michael French David in EE? Anyway, did you like that Crime Traveller programme he was in? I thought it was a shame that that only ran for a couple of series, would liked to have seen more of it.

I love John Henshaw who plays Wilf Bradshaw in 'Born & Bred'.

I think that Michael French's character is too straight laced, which has become very boring for me. He always seems to spoil anything that is happening in the village. I do understand that the show needs a straight character, but it would be nice to see Tom "let his hair down" every once in a while.

I originally started to watch the show from the beginning because Michael French was going to be in it, and he does play Tom very well, I'm just disappointed with the character.

I saw Michael French in a screenplay on BBC1 the other day. The storyline was that he started seeing this young girl of about 18 and at the same time his son started seeing an older woman. Turned out that his son was seeing his girlfriend's mum.

Michael French isn't leaving Born and Bread, it's actually James Bolam that's leaving. He takes the job in New Zealand. Reason is that JB is starting in a new drama series with Dennis Waterman on BBC1 this week.

- I did too and enjoyed it.

HAve you also seen him on the one off costume detective/drama with Nigel Havers, also the poster mentioned crime traveller , I wonder if it's the same one, and yes. it was a brilliant show, pity they didn't do further episodes.

I've also seen him 2x on West end play ART, and the other one (can't remember the play about reunion , it was staged also in the west end but in a small semicircular stage, rather intimate atmosphere and another brilliant acting by Michael French. I guess I'm simply a greeat fan of his!

I watched some of the first series but not all. Didn't Michael French's character have a teenage daughter? What happened to her, she hasn't been mentioned this time at all. Is she dead?

She moved away at the beginning of this season. She has gone to college (in Manchester from what I can remember), and is training to be a nurse.

The details I have for 18th April:

Spoiler
Ormston is united in its determination to win the annual pub olympics, which this year means a hefty cash prize to buy Phyllis's pub back from the brewery. Meanwhile, Tom's desire for Catherine to win a game at the olympics, blinds him to a more critical illness she is trying to cover up.

The details I have for 25th April (last in series):

Spoiler
When Jean's mother turns up for her daughter's wedding, she reveals a devastating secret to Tom which his oath as a doctor forbids him disclosing to anyone else. Donald Newman has to find a home for a young woman whose father has died suddenly.
