It is now mid June and still no OAD from Vestel for my 825 box. I have had the jumping for over six month now and I am sure I am not the only one who is fed up with the situation.

You obviously haven't been keeping an eye on http://www.vestelpvr.futaura.co.uk/dso.php or the DTG site . The V13.0 software update starts broadcasting tomorrow morning, initially just for Hitachi branded boxes, AFAIK. Assuming it is just for Hitachi T825s, as the DTG site states (they have been wrong before though), expect OADs for other T825 boxes very soon.

Has anyone recieved the OAD V13.0? My Hitachi HDR163 is not picking anything up automatically or manually.

Yes, somebody has reported that there Hitachi HDR253 received the update manually this morning. Automatic updates happen at 3am, so most people will probably get their updates in a few hours time.

Which software version is your HDR163 running? If it is running a factory installed version, it should pick the update up. If, however, somebody has installed a different (non-Hitachi) software version on it, it will not.

It is on V12.3

It has picked it up manually now, and is downloading. Cheers.

Any Digihome DTR160 owners still reading this thread will probably be pleased to know that the fix for this problem will be coming in the form of the V13.0 OAD which will be broadcasting starting this coming Friday from 10am, and over the weekend. You can either manually scan for an update on Friday, or it should pick it up automatically around 3am on Saturday morning with the box left in standby.

Also the same update is shown as applicable to Wharfedale DTR, Technika DTR, and Techwood DTR. No specific models listed. just the generic "DTR" designation. Link to DTG site here.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the OAD this week also applies to most of the other brands - certainly ONN, Durabrand and maybe Luxor, even though they are not specifically mentioned on the DTG site, as those brands may share the same OAD id as the Digihome software. Logik being the one remaining brand that I suspect will definitely not be included in this week's OAD.

I made three attempts at "Scan for updates" this morning between 10:00 and 11:30 on my Wharfedale LP250DTR/HDMI currently on software 4.8. However none were successful. The duration of the scans lasted 15min, about 10min and about 7min respectively. The variation in duration was mainly in the delay before the scan progress moved from the zero position. On all 3 cases the progress bar paused at about 60% and 80% for a while suggesting something may have been found but wasn't downloaded.

I did a First Time Installation and a power cycle before the last attempt but it made no difference.

Anyone else been successful today on the same model as mine or any other?

Incidentally, has there been any reports of the DSO issue affecting units on software 4.8? I guess it is possible not all T825 software versions need updating.

I've not seen any specific reports regarding the Wharfedale models, but IIRC these had a relatively short time on the shelves compared with other models. I would guess they are affected by the same problem as other brands, but even if not, you'll probably benefit from all the other fixes.

It's only a suspicion (as I don't have a PC to snoop on the actual OAD broadcasts), but so far with the Hitachi and Sharp OADs, we've seen 2 seperate OADs broadcast in the same timeslots for different models. Given the models description from the DTG, this would imply the need for 3 seperate OADs to be broadcasting - 2 for the 2 different Wharfedale models, and another shared by Digihome, Techwood and Technika (and possible other generic base models like the Asda ones). So, if there are actually only 2 OADs broadcasting and one includes Digihome, etc, this means only one of the Wharfedale models will get an update this week.

Thanks for the info. I'll try a few more times today and tomorrow and see if I get anything. I'm away on holiday from Sunday so won't get the chance then. I'll leave the unit on standby with Automatic Updates enabled while I'm away but I'm a bit wary about that as my unit is still failing to come out of standby sometimes.

Are you suggesting that different OADs are being broadcast on different days or changed more frequently? I would have thought that such a plan would seriously reduce the chances of the Automatic Update feature getting the software. I assume this feature makes just one attempt each night.

No - just that maybe only one of the two different Wharfedale models may be covered by the OAD this week. The OADs will remain constant over the 72 hour time slot. Anyway, best wait to see if Peter posts later with the IDs of the ones currently broadcasting before I carry on with more guesswork .

Ah! I see. Sorry I mis-understood.

Tried manual oad search on my wharfdale lp250dtr, 3 times no update found yet?

I have tried several times last evening a manual scan for updates to no avail for my Wharfedale LP160DTR/HDMI currently on software 4.8. Am I correct in understanding v13.0 is for the Wharfedales of the non LP variety?

I really had given up any hope of Vestel doing updates to their T825 systems, but now this has given me a glimmer of hope they are still investing time and effort into this.

Please tell me there is hope for an update to the 4.8 software, the box generally works ok, but if there is anything that makes it a little more solid, is a good thing!

All the best to everyone here,

Richard

For the OAD currently broadcasting, yes. There should be another OAD later this month for the LP model.

Futaura, you don't know if the Digihome update will be repeated do you?

Not sure - maybe.

However, it seems the v13.0 fix has not fixed the problem for everyone. For those that do already have v13.0 and are still interested in helping troubleshoot the problem, please see http://pvrbugs.futaura.co.uk/view.php?id=197.

Hi,
I've just done the hardware mod. on my T810 which had severe freezing as in the V2.7 T825s.
As previosly described by anothe contributor I chopped off a hard drive cable from an old PC PSU and wired it directly onto the power board. This has produced a total fix. Possibly changes in the signal since the Winter Hill DSO have made the processors more prone to spikes on the 5V rail supplied to the hard drive via the main board.
Now to my main point, is it that due to this hardware deficiency post DSO, that the only practical solution was to come up with a "clever" software fix for the problem, so no wonder that it took them so long and that it has not been totally successful for everyone. So has this simply been a software fix for a hardware problem...........well it worked for the Hubble Telescope!

So you're saying replacing the power cable to the hard drive will sort it?
Also does anyone know if it's possible to download the version 13 software?

I have the v13 software OAD files which I will make available on my site at some point. The reason they're not there already is because I am not sure if the files can be used to upgrade via the RS232 port. A guinea pig is needed to try it - since nobody has tried it yet, there is a chance it could brick the box.

I see they're up on your site now - thanks for that. You wouldn't happen to know if the v13 software adds automatic buffering of the current channel, which v2.7 doesn't have?
futaura
14-09-2010
No - no significent feature changes (unless you count the removal of the "Gemstar" features). The Vestel software never has supported automatic continuous buffering of live tv, and probably never will, at least for the SD models.
