There is A LOT of competition this year for Christmas number one, so I think this could be the first X Factor free Christmas number one for some time.

Theres

the pope
Susan Boyle
Rolf Harris & Status Quo
the muppets
Last years winner Alexandra

Theres also a lot of people who don't want the charts dominated by it again this year.

this is said every year and every year they get number 1.......theyve had 14 million people watching them every week since august.....i would imagine thats alot of exposure.......

it doesnt matter to me if the winner gets to number 1 or not...it doesnt change my life or anything......id like the winner to get to number 1 though....

I think you will find the more competitors there are, the more likely the X Factor single will get to number one. The people who are going to buy it will buy it regardless and the people who are going to buy something else just to make a point will end up buying different songs and none of them will get enough sales to challenge the X Factor winner.

I'm not holding my breath

For the last couple of years there have been campaigns to keep the X Factor winner from the Xmas No 1 slot...But none have succeeded yet! Even against Leon Jackson who wasn't the strongest winner the X Factor has produced.

I think whoever wins out of Joe, Stacey & Olly will have garnered enough support from the public to get the required sales for the No 1 spot. It isn't as hard to achieve as it once was and the publicity that the X Factor gets is far beyond what any of the other contenders will be able to get.

Which is exactly why X Factor will be number one. Have one good song against X Factor and there might have been a chance.

Don't forget George Michael's new christmas song 'December Song' and also Slade are re-releasing 'Merry Christmas Everybody'

Of course it will get to number 1! Every year this is said and it's never even close.

And don't forget, we get to see Noddys Knob if he gets to No1.............Can't get more incentive than that!

I love the X Factor, but I hope they don't make number 1...its all too easy...

I am 34 and I remember in the 80's and 90's when artists built up to the top spot....its all a little too easy now...

AND I am a fan of the show...!
Its killing the charts!

I think this might be the first case of negative sales, as people will start giving their copies of the original back!

I don't want any reality singer associated with Cowell getting to Number 1 this Christmas. Sick and ****** tired of it. Don't buy the X Factor single, buy anything else. I would rather see Rolf Harris get to Number 1 than the latest cover from team Cowell, and that is saying something.

Ah yes, the 80s and 90s when we had real songs at the top of the charts such as Mr Blobby, Bob the Builder, Band Aids, Spice Girls and East 17. The charts have always been a bit rubbish at Christmas.

Makes you wonder if the other record companies start these campaigns to boost sales of their own music knowing they aint got a cat in hells chance of getting the Xmas No 1, but by doing so selling more than without such campaigns.

Doesn't bother me as I don't follow the charts. But I DO hope it's not Susan Boyle.

Alexandra is not releasing her single until January the 11th.

Why is this still even being debated? The only way The X Factor might be stopped from getting to number 1 is if a massive charity song was released, another Band Aid type thing, but even then it would probably still be The X Factor winner.

Pete Waterman has said that he does not care who wins this weekend's X Factor final.

The former Pop Idol judge also told the Daily Mail that none of the contestants will have long-lasting success.
Waterman said: "I haven't ever seen any of the finalists. I haven't heard them sing.

"But I can guarantee they all have decent but unremarkable voices, no discernible personalities - and some heart-rending tale to tell about a granny who's died, a distant cousin with a drug habit or some other such sob story.

"Will any of them have the elusive X Factor? Absolutely not. And I can promise you another thing - when the interminable farrago of karaoke wailing and crooning is over for another series, we'll barely hear a peep out of this year's winner again."

He added: "So if you were to ask me who the real X Factor superstar is - the most enduring, unforgettable personality of the show's entire series - I'd have no hesitation in telling you. It's Simon Cowell.

"And here's another thing - Simon has no interest in acts with longevity. After all, he doesn't want last year's winners hanging around when the latest tranche of newcomers is being primed for a fresh series.

"So whoever wins on Saturday - whether it be Olly, Joe or East London's sweet-voiced Stacey - they'll be permitted to release their album. Then they'll retreat into musical oblivion."

Digital Spy

I have to say, I agree with everything that Pete Waterman says here. He is totally right, yet again.

I have never bought the winners single from the X factor. They've just never appealed. I did buy Susan Boyl's CD though because I liked the sound of it.. it's so simple and beautiful... nothing to do with the hype around it. It's the only CD I've bought from a reality TV programme. I've never seen Titanic either. I thought it sounded all hype and special effects rather than a great story. I saw 'The Kite Runner' however, which was so good I can't bear to watch it again. Now that was a story
