Miley Cyrus to Quit Pop Music - Good or Bad?
amidala
10-12-2009
Miley Cyrus is about to make her last pop record. Revealing that she is working on an effort right now, the Disney star said she wants to quit pop music for something edgier.

Read the story in Celebrity-Mania.

I'd reckon she'll get a lot of criticisms with the edgier one. What do you think?

I actually think See You Again is a really good pop song, and I quite like Party In The USA and Fly On The Wall as well. Can't say I've heard much of her other stuff though, so i'm not overly bothered. She does come across as being a bit annoying.

Yea, apart from "see you again2 I think she is pretty bad. I cannot believe the amount of views PITUSA and 7 things have got on youtube, ridiculous.

She did produce some pretty good pop songs (See You Again, Fly on the Wall, 7 Things and Party in the USA) and her attempt at a ballad was pretty damn good (The Climb) but I think it'll be hard to take her seriously with an "edgier" sound.

Hmm. I'd say that she'll have a hard time being taken seriously trying to do something edgier. The only way she'll have a chance is if she lies low for five or six years, then reinvents herself and comes back with a band or something. I say 'with a band' because that way it'll be known she's serious about what she's doing.

Forgot another thing...Her song 'The Climb' has been disqualified from Grammy nomination for soundtrack.

This is bad. It means she wants to try and go into another area of music, so it'll probably be watered down rock music or something equally as shit.

She's silly, because the majority of her fans are from watching her show and going into an 'edgier' genre is going to alienate them.

i'm actually not so sure about that. she said she wants to take a few years off, by which time she will be grown up, and so will (some of) her fans. she touched on that when she was on Alan Carr's chatshow last night, and also said that she wants her future material to be more the music she wants to make as an individual artist - i guess that means something different to the teen pop she is making now with her age and image.

I read the first chapter of her book (because I was curious and wanted to read a few samples of some biographies and she just happened to be the first one that I saw and recognized) and it changed my opinion on her. She knows how she comes across, that people don't like her, and everything else that a lot of you mentioned. She can't keep her mouth shut, and while that annoys the heck of all of us, at least she's honest about it.

I do agree with what you all are saying though, and I don't like the way she went on about how she doesn't listen to pop music, it just makes her more of a marketing puppet than she already is. It's also like saying that she goes to all these awards shows and has no idea who the heck these people are and doesn't care because 'it's all about her.' And for that reason, I'm happy that they ended up dropping her nomination at the Grammys, no one deserves an award that big of a deal when they don't even acknowledge the people who are among the same genre of work.

And now she wants to do something different when she doesn't even consider herself what she was, pop music. Bet she doesn't even know how to make an edgier record, she just has to tell her management and they'll do it for her.

I'm beginning to wonder if she's even heard of Radiohead before seeing them at the Grammys this year...
