Decent buy? Parents have a budget of up to £1,000 but this looks a pretty good deal (£689.98 inc VAT + 5 year warranty + free delivery/installation from CostCo) and a great TV to boot.

How does the TV sit within the Panasonic range? Is it top-end or middle?

Also, does the 5 year warranty from CostCo cover permanent image retention/screen burn?

The G10 is a better set, Neo PDP panel, better blacks & cheaper to run with Freesat built in.

A 50" G10 can now be had for £750 so a 42" should be well less

Thanks for the reply

Got a link to a 42" version of the G10? Also need somewhere that will offer a warranty that covers screen burn.

Why? Screenburn is very unlikely unless you keep a static high contrast image on them for hours at a time. Even image retention is virtually eliminated now on Pansonic plasmas & on the rare occasions this happens it's usually gone in minutes when the source is changed.

Take a look at this thread for best prices

It's really not a problem with Panasonic, Samsung & LG still suffer with it though.

Most of the programs I view have the Dog on them, no sign of IR & my set gets a good 6 hours a day use & has since i bought it at the end of July.

I did once leave the Sky planner on for about an hour inadvertently & saw IR for a few seconds, but it disappeared as soon as I started to view another program.

Thanks for all the replies.

What does the last letter reflect - in the TV my parents have seen (G10), the panel is:-

42" TX-P42G10B

Whereas when I search online (e.g. here), the panel is:-

42" TX-P42G10E

B is the UK model covered by a Panasonic UK warranty. The E is from somewhere else and will have no warranty cover by Panasonic UK.

I have heard the G15 is slightly better. An extra HDMI socket, virtual surround PRO and other additions.

I've signed up to quidco, and accessed the M&S site from the quidco site.

What do I then need to do (is there a "promotion code" to enter) when I order the TV/Blu-Ray online?

I have a G10 so i would highly recommend that. However, since you have a higher budget, you could go for the V10 (which is the range above the G10/G15).

It comes here with 5 year warranty for £1077 (slightly out your budget i know)

No, as long as you acces M & S (or anyone else) from the Quidco site the your order is tracked & the discount automatically goes to your account. It can take a few days to become viasable in your account though but providing you have gone through the quidco site you will get it. A lot depends upon the speed of the supplier in confirming with Quidco

I was looking at getting the same Panasonic TV the TXP42S10. But I would like to ask a question that I have bought in the USA. At the moment I have a USA bought Panasonic DVD player (NTSC) that I bought in the USA about 10 years ago. Its still going strong more than 50% of my disks are NTSC and is REGION 1 -- USA. I will move up to Blue-Ray when I get a HD TV. But just want to know will there be trouble with this TV if its connected to a Region 1 DVD player (and region 1 Blue Ray player
