Girls Aloud.

Until Mutya left, Sugababes were in my opinion the best pop band in the UK, but nowadays I'd have to say Girls Aloud have taken over. The Saturdays have never really been anything more than a subpar version of Girls Aloud.

Sugababes v1,2 and 3. Always creative and cool without trying too hard.

Girls Aloud. Pop at it's best.

Overall though they've got the best back catalogue, and Tangled Up is one of my favourite albums ever.

Then (after quite a bit of a gap) Sugababes.

Then (after a massive gap) The Saturdays - I loved both their albums when they came out, but I think they're fairly shallow, instant songs that get a bit boring after a while. I do like them, but they're basically a poor mans Girls Aloud.”

I agree with a lot of this, although I love GA's album number 2. And apart from the singles, album one isn't great when you've heard how they've progressed since but progressed they have. And I think singles wise some silly choices (edited Untouchable - whyy?) but that leaves the best to be discovered on their albums. They do get better and better and are so inventive.

Speaking of progression, Sugababes peaked with their 2nd line-up. the songs they did were edgy, mature pop but effortlessly cool. SB3 seemed like they were doin the same kinda thing but it felt more watered-down and IMO the Catfights period was a loss of direction. With Sweet 7 they seemed like they're trying to rebrand themselves with catchy tunes, which is great but shallow. They've become better with Jade now as they just seemed to be having fun with each other.

I could copy and paste that Saturdays paragraph I quoted, they look great but sound like a lesson in Girlband 101.
