Looking for some good alternative NON-commerical Christmas songs.

I have found a few which I think are great.

The Raveonettes - The Christmas Song (Cover but you can find the original on spotify)

Sarah McLachlan Wintersong

Camera Obscura The Blizzard

Also, I think Sufjan Steven's album of Christmas songs is really good if anyone wants to check that out...

Any other recommendations along these lines?

The Pretenders isn't exactly non-commerical, you hear it play in supermarkets every year. But I do like that song.

Pretty much.

Less well-known songs which are a bit indie/not played to death every single year.

phil spector's "a christmas gift for you" is a good christmas record free of more "commercial" versions.

I think I have that one as I have a French Christmas CD which is really good and a lot better than the tripe we normally hear every year (Slade etc.)

Lucky Soul's rendition of 'Lonely This Christmas' is rather lovely, and can be downloaded off of the NME's website, here.

Another long-time favourite of mine is Cocteau Twins' Winter Wonderland. Bliss!

What about this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHQs6UTiFNE a protest song against X-Factor and them getting to No1 for the last 5 years, when I say 5 I'm including this years because no doubt the amount of people watching the show and the radio playlists having it on every couple of hours will ensure that which is sad really. Nothing against the contest by the way just the timing of them releasing the winners single boring and predictable them getting to No1 every year.
