What's your favourite Christmas song ?
I don't mean Slade or Wizzard, or Wham, or Cliff Richard !
Here is mine :
Gilbert O'Sullivans' "Christmas Song"

Don't worry, you're not the only one. I also hate it!

I love Celine Dion/Mariah Carey's versions of O Holy Night.

My fave Christmas song has to be 'I Believe in Father Christmas' by Greg Lake. Love everything about that song - Greg's vocals, the melody, the lyrics, music - everything!

its oh so cool to cite this track as a favourite crimbo song, after all its sooo bloody alternative... but after all these years, it isnt! it has become the very thing it tried to revolt against, its now part of the package...

anyway, id suggest it AINT a crimbo song, it mentions crimbo but unlike slade, wizzard, etc etc etc it isnt a song celebrating crimbo.

plus 'stop the cavalry' to, that was an anti-war protest song, not a crimbo song, it happened to mention crimbo, thats all.

for me, it's nothing to do with "cool" or "alternative" - i love it because i just so happen to think it's a wonderful song, and kirsty maccoll sings beautifully.

I like Kirsty MacColl's vocals on this song but I can't get over Shane sounding like a drunken uncle. It is a great song despite Shane's vocals though. Just feel like putting my fingers in my ears whenever he's on though.

Shame Kirsty's no longer with us.

That was an alternative song?

You'll have to show me your citation to be honest because that I never knew.

I do like it though, one of my faves!

My favourite Xmas song? Quite a recent one actually, The Lancashire Hotpots - Carry You Home.

You could also argue Shane McGowan's voice helps MAKE the song what it is.

alternative to the sickly sweet 'everybodies happy' type crimbo song... not alternative as a genre thing...

i found it was popular (back in the late 80's) amongst the 'indie' and 'alternative' fans , it seemed to be one track the 'cool' brigade could accept and indeed rightly so.

it is a classic, but like all the other crimbo hits from yesteryear its become sooo passe , and has become part of the crimbo hype bandwaggon that it originally was seperate from. (due to it being unconventional as a crimbo track).

of COURSE it does, the marriage of mcgowan and maccoll was genius on this track, i cannot imagine anyone else being able to nail this track the way they did.

Fairy Tale Of New York is the greatest song in my opinion although I accept that because it is so popular it is not as cool as it once was.

Celine Dion ? Oh please.....say you are joking ! !

Thea Gilmore's "That'll be Chrismas would also be a contender if she could get the recognition she deserves

Here's one of mine:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrvebqA8xdM - Britney Spears - My Only Wish (This Year)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs4whV7eA8s - No Angels - When The Angels Sing (they're very big in Germany)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfD7FzcjVyQ - Kate Bush - December Will Be Magic Again

All great songs and better than the usual Slade tripe we normally hear
