My fave Christmas song has to be 'I Believe in Father Christmas' by Greg Lake. Love everything about that song - Greg's vocals, the melody, the lyrics, music - everything!

anyway, id suggest it AINT a crimbo song, it mentions crimbo but unlike slade, wizzard, etc etc etc it isnt a song celebrating crimbo. plus 'stop the cavalry' to, that was an anti-war protest song, not a crimbo song, it happened to mention crimbo, thats all. |

its oh so cool to cite this track as a favourite crimbo song, after all its sooo bloody alternative... but after all these years, it isnt! it has become the very thing it tried to revolt against, its now part of the package...

for me, it's nothing to do with "cool" or "alternative" - i love it because i just so happen to think it's a wonderful song, and kirsty maccoll sings beautifully.
It is a great song despite Shane's vocals though. Just feel like putting my fingers in my ears whenever he's on though. Shame Kirsty's no longer with us. |

I like Kirsty MacColl's vocals on this song but I can't get over Shane sounding like a drunken uncle.

You'll have to show me your citation to be honest because that I never knew. I do like it though, one of my faves! My favourite Xmas song? Quite a recent one actually, The Lancashire Hotpots - Carry You Home. |

You could also argue Shane McGowan's voice helps MAKE the song what it is.

Quite a recent one actually, The Lancashire Hotpots - Carry You Home. i found it was popular (back in the late 80's) amongst the 'indie' and 'alternative' fans , it seemed to be one track the 'cool' brigade could accept and indeed rightly so. it is a classic, but like all the other crimbo hits from yesteryear its become sooo passe , and has become part of the crimbo hype bandwaggon that it originally was seperate from. (due to it being unconventional as a crimbo track). |
