Sony Bravia KDL46Z5800
A few weeks ago I ordered this Sony TV which has a Freesat/Freeview tuners onboard and it looks now it will be next year before it arrives.
To record sd and hd programs I will have to buy a hard disk recorder and I am wondering what to buy. I am also starting to wonder if buying this TV has any advantages as you can buy a freesat recorder with dual tuner.I am no expert and would appreciate some advice. |

I considered this model too....
but decided that the price difference between the Z500 and the Z800 is much larger than just buying a Freesat receiver. Who knows how good the receiver inside is? slow at changing channels etc..... The recording issue too If something goes wrong, it's easier to repair (imagine an update messing up the freesat like my Goodmans that's been useless for months!) then you're without TV completely. Personally I ended up getting the 46X4500 because I got it a really good deal on that one, but the Z5500 was next on my list, and a Humax Foxsat HDR. This coupled with a universal remote (Logitech Harmony) and you don't even notice what's built in and what's not. VERY happy with it. |

Sorry for taking so long in replying. I agreed with what you said about having the satellite receiver built in and the problems it could possibly cause so I decided to cancel the z5800 and go for the z5500 with no built in freesat receiver and buy a Humax freesat/recorder.
When I went to cancel the z5800 with built in freesat I discovered it was actually cheaper than the basic model without freesat so I have changed my mind again and going to stick with original order. |

If you're using Freesat, a TV with an in-built tuner is a huge advantage, later buying a recorder is good as well, as you then have the capability of recording two prgrammes whilst watching a third.
