Freesat TV when using Sky
My parents have just bought a Sony 40W5810, and very nice it is too. They have Sky+ for now, as the new TV has a Freesat tuner is there a way they can take the satellite feed into their TV from the back of the Sky+ box? That way they can watch the HD content on Freesat as they don't have Sky HD. They have two cables into the house from the dish, and the Sky+ needs both.

Satellite signals don't work the same way the TV aerial signals do. You can't split a satellite feed to two different receivers and the expect the tuning to still work OK. The reason is that satellite signals are split by polarisation and signal level: Vertical polarisation, Horizontal polarisation, High, and Low. The receiver tells the dish what sort of signal it needs for a particular channel group.
The simplest solution is to run an extra wire from the satellite dish to feed the Freesat TV. That way there won't be any clashes. |
