Phil Jupitus was a bit cringeworthy but the rest of it was good

Phil Jupitus was a bit rubbish and looked as if he was hating it. Pity - fab show.

Austin was amazing tonight in that routine don't you think? He looked gorgeous, danced brilliantly and owned that dance and I'm not kidding either.

Agreed. Even without the guns, somebody that everybody can appreciate! - Happy for Erin too.

I love Hairspray and normally think Phil Jupitus is great but he looked woefully miscast, and uncomfortable to be there.

Only the gifted few are a 'triple threat'. But if you're going to be in musical theatre then you need to be adept at at least one out of singing, dancing or acting!

Glad I saw it when Michael Ball was in it!

Enjoyed it. Michael Ball is definitely a better Edna. Sharon D Clarke sounded very good.

jupitus was awful

it must have convinced a lot of folks not to go see it, a terrible advert for the show

Not my cup of tea at all, too over the top had to mute last half off it. Agree about Jupitus though, just didnt seem like he was into it at all and seemed uncomfortable throughout although what man wouldnt be in all that get-up!

That is exactly what I said to hubby "well we won't bother with that one then!"
We did not recognise Jupitus at all & he was dire. The lead was also pretty cringeworthy, she was so out of breath through most of it her singing went to pot & I'm not making digs at her size because I was a trained soprano & did lots of musical amateur stuff when I was 20 stone & still managed to belt out top notes while dancing. (Funnily enough, now I'm down to a size 10 my voice has changed & I am a not so good alto but I can dance better - you close one door & another opens).
Hubby still fancies Belinda however even in that awful frock .

Oh I am so grateful to have seen it with the original London cast and they were all fantastic. Michael Ball a fab Edna as were the others

I presume you realise that the female lead of hairspray has to be big as is part of the story line but I agree she doesn't need to be breathless and the original lead in the west end certainly wasn't.

I'm sure Edna got her words wrong.

Michael Ball is much prettier an Edna

Jupitus was painful, he just can't sing. Didn't think much of the lead girl either. The film with John Travolta is much better.

Michael Ball is the world's best Edna.

Phill Jupitus twitted earlier that he couldn't hear himself in either of the two takes they did. He was disappointed because he loves doing hairspray.

Oh dear lord I hated it. But I'm not the best judge I guess - I detest stage musicals. So cringeworthy.

Believe me, he was the lucky one.

Vincent and James were class at the back - they looked like they were having a ball despite themselves!

I enjoyed the Pro's part in this better than the actual cast tbh...they all looked like they were having a blast.

I saw it last year with the original cast and it was wonderful, much better than the film, and Michael Ball was superb, no-one could be better.
